Warning admins!!!

Post by Alessandro »

The NHL lawyers has just made a site about ea hockey to close  and it's better i dont comment on the thing...
However the fact is that they used to have some sponsors to pay the servers and such and the official reason was that they were making money over the NHL. I know this is sick but it's how it runs sometimes in America :dunno:

So to the admins: pay attention and keep your eyes opened, the NHL is powerful and sick and this is such a terrible combination. I don't want TBL making the same end as Double Minor Hockey Network!

It wasn't. They had a paypal link set up, but that was just to cover server costs. I seriously doubt if the donations were ever enough for the site to even break even on any given month.

True, nobody has given us any kind of compensation for anything and we don't have any kind of ads that generate revenue based upon traffic like Google or any othe banners etc. so we're fine.

Susie, on the other hand, with it's new pay for better access and features approach may want to watch their email carfeully and be in close communication with their legal team.

I was also mad at susie for charging for some services. Firstly it seemed unnecessary, as I am sure that their technical problems regarding servers could be sorted out without the need to charge premium users (look at TBL). Secondly it seems legally shaky. I would be gutted to see it shut down, as the graphics on offer there for FM are the best anywhere...

Just found thisLINK

APRIL FOOLS (Canada)
Score : -/10

...but it was for the best. And it was SO worth it.

A large majority of you guys got PUNK'd. Seriously. This whole thing was an April Fools joke, and we couldn't just let it go for one day. And I think you guys have waited long enough for the answer.

We started thinking about it in early March, but didn't put the plan into effect until the last week. We had to start it early, since April Fools started on a Saturday, and if I really did get notice from the NHL it would have had to have been during the week.

Sure, there were a lot of holes in the story, but it did work - most of you were fooled, and when the site didn't go back up yesterday, I think panic set in to the guys who honestly believed it was an April Fools joke, then realized it didn't come back.

The fact is, we're transferring to a new server, and we were expecting to be online on Tuesday or so - but we couldn't let you guys hang like that for so long. So there you have it - we got you, and got you real good.

Depot wasn't in on the joke, and yeah I'll probably get hung for it, but we had to keep as few people in the loop as possible for it to work as well as it did. So the gratitude shown by Chase and Rico is totally genuine - and appreciated. But just because we're going back online doesn't mean you should flee from here. Expand your horizons and visit both communities - this place gets such a bad rap for old reasons - reasons that are older than some of you have been on the forums.

That was just dirty. But, if it gets rid of a lot of the useless posters who contributed nothing at all to the community it's worth it.

Believe me amigos :hombre: having gone through two fakes and then actually having the place truly go down as we all though they were just messing with us again at Susie we will not ever be playing such a "joke" with our users. It's :bs: no matter how it's done online because we all compensate for and put a lot of faith into each other to compensate for the fact that we are typing to people from all over the world the we know but don't really know... and I think it particularly damaging to pull such shenanigans on an online community when text is all you have. Worst of all it "rewards" your users so that the people it most upsets will be the people to whom the site means the most which just goes against every single thing you strive for in running a board.

Yeah April's Fools stuff is funny in harmless doses or in a live interactive setting where people can at a moments notice come running in and tell everyone it's just a joke. Online there's always a chance that people never get to see the "you've been Punk'd!" reveal and just end up all  and the rest of your users are left somewhere between feeling kicked in the groin or waiting for the next time they try to pull something as with the cheating girlfriend, she already did it once so you know she could easily do it again. I think it's a particularly stupid thing to do, just ask thousands of users at Susie. Sorry for the serious rant when we are just joking about but this kinda thing really tap dances on the TBL Admin Team's last nerves so you can be assured you won't ever see such things from us. :nerd:
