Flames 2046/47 season recap

Post by narrogh »

Finishing 13th in the Western Conference is everything but the success. Where to start?

There were several issues with this team but 359 GA stand out of all the others. Flames are officially The worst defense in the whole League. :-k My first pairing defenders Boyd-Eronen are only bright spots in this almost non-existent defense. Acquisition of Sasha Boyd was my best move in the whole season, his 92 pts and +/- 17 speak for itself. :notworthy: Eronen was solid with 58 pts but everyone else was disastrous. Riggs, MacLean and Bordeleau could find themselves on a trading block very soon and Dube is definitely worthless. Addition of Murphy in the middle of season was desperate move and still has to prove itself. So my task is to improve defense this offseason, especially in RD position. I'm not gonna waste my time on goalie duo Akkanen/Gagne, no words can describe what I feel. :-#

Forwards weren't so bad, 311 GF, but there is still plenty room for improvement. RW Osipov had a stellar year with 52 goals (92 pts) thanks to Dobryshkin's breakout year (91 pts). Holik is good winger but not 1st line caliber and addition of Martinelli was pretty nice move. The rest of forward core were sup-par if not awful.

What to do?

Firstly, this will be The year of G Kyle Wilson whether he's ready or not.
Secondly, I will try to bring some new blood to defense core. LD position is covered up with Sopusek who could get his time in the big league while RD issue will be dealt through trading/free agency.
Finally, arrival of veteran like Joslin could help my offense and I should try to bring some proper 1st line LW.

Season to forget. The next will be make-it-or-break-it.
