Manual or auto contract renewals?

Post by Eagle »

Hey guys,

I'd like to ask how do you generally handle contract renewals.
I'm not sure if its better to do it manually one by one even though there might be lots of players with expiring contracts or if you just go on vacation, let it renew automatically and then get rid of bad players.

Manually. Contracts are one of the most important functions of the GM, why would I not do it myself as the GM?

Good point. It's just that sometimes its too much players to go through with AHL affiliate, CHL prospects and so on. But I suppose its indeed better to do it this way.

I guess it depends how much you care for your roster. AI for other teams are horrible at making signing decisions. I never tried it but maybe they will let go a guy that you didn't want to see leave.

I do them myself, but try to use longer term contracts so I don't need to do it every year. The AI doesn't make great decisions, could release the wrong players, overpay, fail to make qualifying offers etc etc

I also don't worry too much about the AHL beyond my backups/depth players. Generally the rest are just a rotating group of prospects that were on 3 year contracts and I've picked the best ones out, it's unlikely I'll be keeping them long term and I'll use the space for the next batch.
