Adding players and teams in smaller hockey nations

Post by zbguy »

Hello all, I'm kicking the tires on customizing databases (based on TBL's DB). As a test, I created a mock league (in Greece) with two teams. I also created a few Greek and Canadian players for them. When I created a game, I found some odd things:

1) The Greek league and its teams exist. However, the Greek players are all absent on the rosters (and the game itself, even looking at it with the save game scout), but the Canadian players are there.

2) The Greek league remains unlisted in the Teams -> Other -> Europe menu. (In other words, Greece hasn't been added to the list of countries that you can browse.)

So the questions I have are 1) How come those players aren't appearing? and 2) Is there a way to make countries that have leagues/teams appear on that menu?

1) How come those players aren't appearing?
It's because the players/teams/league will have a low reputation. In which case, you have to ensure you use a larger database setting before starting your new game. When you start EHM, click on the Preferences button and you'll see a Database Size setting. If you use a larger setting then your players should appear in game (but the setting affects only new games and not saved games already in existence).

2) Is there a way to make countries that have leagues/teams appear on that menu?
I suspect it is because Greece has a low Importance rating in game. You will need to use the EHM 2007 Updater v3 to edit this. You will find the download link in this post. Load the database in the Updater and then click on Editor -> Nations.

Backup your DB before using the Updater because it still needs further testing.

Forum Guidelines
As I mentioned in our Forum Guidelines Thread we'd rather more descriptive thread titles than generic ones. I have renamed the thread and moved it to the correct forum.

I have a follow-up question of sorts. I've done some more tinkering with my low-level Greek league and I noticed that the rosters are incomplete in the game even though I created enough players for them. So a team would have 20 players in the editor, but in some cases only 15 would show up, or only 8, and one team had none at all. Why does the game leave out some players and keep others? I couldn't find any patterns; players with high and low CA and PA would be left in and out willy nilly, nor did it seem to be based on age.

Usually it is based on Reputation, I believe. Are you running the game with the Full Database setting?

I have it on large. Trying it on full would make the game crash while loading the DB, though I forget if that happened when starting a new game or when importing the DB.

UPDATE: Never mind, I was able to start a game with a Full database without crashes. However the game is still only showing some players on the team, but when I click the on the nation overview, it shows some of the players who were left out. Clicking on them does nothing despite them being on the Top Players list and even being named as being on part of the team. Is this a bug?

Can you upload or email to me the EHM 2007 format database? If so, I can take a quick look for you. I'd be interested to see what's going on here.

Hi Archi, have you been able to find out anything about the DB and what's going on with the missing players?

Sorry - it has been an unusually busy week. Normally I have at least an hour to spare in the evenings, but this week has been crazy - and this weekend is the same (save for this morning which I'm using to catch up with the past few days' of forum posts and making up for lost time with the Updater work). It'll probably be Monday or Tuesday when I'll get a chance to take a look. If you haven't heard from me by Wednesday morning then give me another nudge.

Hi Archi, thanks for getting back to me. I actually went back and looked at the game some more. After simming about 10 years, I found the missing players has appeared in the game, and that's when I realized that they were being omitted at the start because they're too young. It seems that players under the age of 13 will not be in the game, although they remain in the database so the game detects that they're there (just not viewable or interactable).

I actually found that the "missing" players still generated stats even though they were invisible, so the game knows they're there and they're basically functional, just too young to interact with.

I'm not 100% sure this is the case but I'm going to do a final test tonight to confirm.

Ah yes, that'll be it. I can't remember the cut-off, but players are certainly hidden until a certain age.

I just signed a 15 year old prospect with my Finnish team, so may be 14 both, NA and Europe?

Dunno about Europe and NA, but players in my (test) game are not appearing on rosters until the day they hit 13.
