What is salary arbitration? Something NHL-related?

Yes, it's when an RFA and the club can't settle on a new deal and one of them files for arbitration. Then an arbitror will set a salary after hearing both parties arguments. The side which didn't file for it can then chose to take a 1 or 2 year deal on that salary.

Haven't seen that in-game as of yet.

Yes There's an explanation here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHL_salar ... rbitration and another here http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2013/7 ... -boolsheet

Essentially it affects RFAs when the team/player can't settle on a contract, an arbitrator decides (and often an agreement is reached shortly before arbitration, in part because it can be tough on players to hear the reasons from the team on why they think a lower amount is more appropriate; agreements can also be reached after the arbitration hearing but before a decision is rendered)

In 2015 there were 25 cases filed (23 by players, two by clubs) and on only 3 actually went through the full process http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/nhl- ... -chiasson/

This summer there were again 25 cases (24 players, 1 club) and none went through the full process (only 1 went as far as having a hearing) http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/nhl- ... z-killorn/

It happens with players ingame apparently, but the question remains...anyone know if it's possible for a club to file for arbitration in EHM?

Well, actually this happened to me in-game..I got 1 RFA with qualifying offer, an European defender, 1st round pick, 24 yrs old, but I doesn't want him in my team because he suck, actually he quite good in junior which made me to draft him, then I play him 2 years in minor, so-so..since I got no right handed defensemen, I put him in NHL, 2 season, average around 70+ games, still suck..

Rating quite high Pa178, scout also give him 5 stars, player description as Offensive Defensemen, but 2 season only manage to get under 20 - 25 point or less. So, decide to leave him sign with any team outside NHL since i hold his right. But he ask for arbitration, and the hearing date, happen to me to the news said he get 1 year $2.5mil..

for me its quite expensive, so decide to waiver him to bought his contract, weird since no team want to claim, after clear i release him then, the Islander signed him with 5 years salary around $5mil per season. weird..

I decide to check him, actually my habit like to check my former player stat with their current team, and he also suck with Islander..hahaha..

Thats my experience with salary arbitration situation. just wanna share.

I've had that happen too, although don't remember the details. More than once.

So far from what people are saying here (and on reddit), while player elected arbitration can happen, it seems "club elected" arbitration is not happening/doesn't seem to be an option.....
