Remove or disable the drafts

Post by Mackecool93 »

Hi, is it possible using any editor available to remove the importance of drafts? To make the world more like the world of football, where you must buy players or recruit free agents only, so the NHL can't force buy all players.

In terms of professional players, I don't think this has much/anything to do with the NHL Draft, but rather the "transfer agreement" that all but Russia have with the NHL

I don't actually see a difference between hockey and football either, as the NHL doesn't "force buy" but rather players choose the NHL - in football there's a few top Leagues, in hockey there's really only one (for some players two if you include the KHL, but even then there's not many)

You have to imagine if a single football League worldwide could pay a player more than entire teams make in other top Leagues & that League was considered "the place to play" by most every player worldwide...players choose the money/prestige of the NHL (so that's what you'd have to edit to change that in EHM)

I haven't looked into it yet myself, but using the new EHM Editor Archi's developing you could look to see how Russia/the KHL is set up and try to have all hockey Nations/Leagues set up the same way (so like the KHL, professional contracts wouldn't have an NHL Release Clause)

In terms of amateurs who are becoming pros, then Attributes like Adaptability and Ambition are going to play a part in player choices (low Adaptability makes a player less likely to leave their home country, high Ambition makes as player more likely to want to play for better Teams/in better leagues), along with Team/League Reputation and probably contract dollar value too (so you'd likely need to edit Team/League Reputation and finances too)

Thanks for a great answer, and i get your point, its a good point :)

But still it would be nice to somehow be able to make sure there are no nhl-clauses or something like this so it would be possible to keep your players in europe.

That would be setting it up like the KHL, as I mentioned (KHL contracts don't/can't have an NHL Release Clause because there's no IRL agreement between the NHL/KHL as there is with other Leagues); in addition, editing Adaptability (and maybe Ambition) will help too, in that it'll make it very unlikely that European/Russian players that are "temporarily unsigned" will go to North America

When I get the time "someday" to return to work on the 1974 database, I plan to look closer at Archi's EHM Editor and have what you're wanting by doing it as I described (using the settings the KHL uses) - so it seems to me what you're looking for is possible (or will be very soon) with some editing
