A newspaper has previewed the upcoming NHL season by listing the best and the worst teams in the league, as well as the players most valuable to their teams.

The strongest Stanley Cup contender was predicted to be the Florida Panthers, with the Vancouver Canucks right behind them. The press also ranked the Atlanta Thrashers and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim as solid contenders. At the bottom of the barrel, the Detroit Red Wings and the Minnesota Wild are expected to struggle this year.
