Challenge 6: Columbus Blue Jackets Chat Thread

Post by Minstrel »

It has been decided that the first post-patch TBL GM Challenge will be to take over as GM of Columbus! All info needed is located in the four threads linked underneath the Challenge Info Box.

EVERYONE SHOULD RE-READ THE SECOND THREAD Challenge Setup & Gameplay as there have been a few changes this go-round and I just edited them in a moment ago.

Don't forget that you are required to stay within the budget the Board has set for the team which means you can't "spend to the Cap" or you will incurr a finances penalty that will make it difficult to compete for the overall points lead. You first record your budget after game 20 so you have until then to get your finances straightened out.

GMs who haven't played in a Challenge since 2005 should re-download the updated Excel chart as well (you'll know if you have the most recent version if there is a spot to record your playoff wins along with your Games 60-82 set).

This is an EMH 2007 version 3.0.2 (the November patch) Challenge ONLY!

As always we encourage you to tell us the tale of your season by providing an update to the chat thread after you post your stats for each section. Things you might want to include are if you have a particularly hot player or line, if your players won any awards during that time, what transactions you've made, anything you want to mention. This helps add to the fun and learning about the game aspects of the Challenge that make them so entertaining. We all start with the exact same team but where it goes from tther you will see is really up to the GM. Best of luck!!

He is SO out of there... as in my game EHM with certainly echo real life 8-)

EDIT - As I'd mentioned people can begin this one whenever they want but as far as when the deadlines will be the Challenge doesn't Officiallyâ„¢ begin until next Monday ;) We wanted people that aren't finishing their Fantasy Draft teams and/or wanted to hop in and play under the new patch asap to have a cool outlet to do that so that's why we announced this one right as soon as we knew the patch was released.

After reading throughout the rules and threads, I've decided to join for my first challenge.

I just had a question though. The rules say we must stay within $1 million of the budget. I just want to make sure I understand this correctly. So lets say the budget is $37 million, so we must stay between $36 million and $37 million? Or can we drop below $36 million?

I know this sounds like a dumb question but I just want to make sure I understand this before I go and screw up on my first challenge.

Also the link for the GRL Addy doesn't seem to be working for me, I keep getting a "Problem loading Page". Is this a problem for anyone else? :dunno:

Thanks

I'll echo this question and I'll further inquire

So does that mean we can be more than $1,000,000 away up until game 20?

You can drop below $36mil, but if you go above $38mil then you get fined appropriately, check out the various links at the top of the page for how much you get fined

Yes, you can go over budget at anytime, as long as when you play your 20th,40th,60th,82nd game you are within the $1mil cut off zone

Looks like Footer is out for the whole first season.

There goes a good defenseman and good trade bait.

I do know who to trade for though assuming they have the same chemistry as they did before :-D

I was looking at the link on the #3: Challenge Stats Recording / GLR Display Info Page. But for whatever reason now, both the link on that page and the link you gave me works. :dunno:

I'll probably start this sometimes next week. I'm really enjoying the Bruins game I started post patch. I'd like to finish the current season at least.

Since this is the first Challenge with 007 that has a budget consideration and since the finance views have changed since 2005 the figure for budget that should be used is the one that displays when you offer a trade to a team. This is also listed on your Finances page as "Est. Averaged Club Salary (p/a)". The 'Total' amount is now total for your entire roster so we'd be forcing people to slash salaries unnecessarily if we asked people to get that number down to the Board Budget. Cool?

I started me team yesterday and currently I'm abit over budget so that needs resolving and I also still need a d-man to play first line LD and a good third line checking center and I'm just about set after around 10 deals for housecleaning/salary issues. :-D

I just picked a perfect one up for a 5th rounder. He's somewhat expensive but oh well, he fits it perfect.

That's what I was thinking, but I already have him playing my main checking line; for a 4th though because someone else had already offered a 5th. :-p I actually got Gaustad for the position and he got hurt for 10 days in the first preseason game I had him in  I got S. Morrison for that D slot I was looking for and have my salary pretty much under control now too; it's lookin' pretty darn good I must say. 8-)

I should really get on this one. But I will finish season 2 of the Fantasy one first.

My thoughts: Bye bye to most Blue Jackets.

last one out will have to close the door so Nash gets some privacy to chat with, oh wait Zherdev gone too? Who will he speak with? Brule?

I really have to learn how to trade. Gave up 1st rounder and Foote to devils for Madden and Martin and fans and board weren´t happy  . But Martin has been awesome in first 7 games of season, most points of all Jackets :-D

First 7 games: 4-3-0 ( and three losses with one goal behind, expect on but last goal in empty net )

Games have gone well, only worrying thing is that 1st line is in ICE. Nash had 2points (assists) in first six games.
Hope luck turns, promise to better was 7th game (1+1) for Nash.

Roster after offseason moves:

Nash - Zubrus - Vyborny
J.Jokinen - Madden - Zherdev
Hagman - Sutherby - Modin
Chimera - Fritche/Svitov - Brule/Balastik

Berard - Martin
Woolley - Campbell
Semenov - Klesla

There is a full instructions sheet along with the speadsheet, it's the first page. Then you just type in your stats at each "set" and it will calculate you stats for you so you can copy and paste them to our recording thread.

We have a Guide Archi made for taking screenshots too... I'll find the link for you 8-)

EVER. they just keep on playing no matter what. i only used 4 players on pk the whole game. 7.56 of pk time. can someone tell me why this happens or if it happened to you??

I gave one of the coaches the boot, and fired a couple of scouts (this is probably the worst set of scouts of seen in the game), and made some trades that I'm really happy with.

Heres what I'm rolling with:

Offense

Nash-Peca-Zherdev

Modin-Svitov-Bondra

Clark-Fritsche-Balastik

Picard-Malhotra-Chimera

Defense

Kubina-Morris

Eminger-Berard

Kloucek-Klesla
