EHM2007 Skin

Post by Rubbinio »

Well guys I have started working on a new skin for this super dupper game but no promises on a release date due to the changed skins folder/files system. But hopefully all goes well and I can have a preview for you all in short time.

I know what you mean Rubb, I haven't tested anything beyond tweaking the titlepanels, sidepanels and footer images yet. It's really reeallllly detailed for 07 with tons of new folders. Check out the '2d Ice' thread here for some info I did figure out about the new 2d ice graphics though.

Grab my 'StoneAge' skin elements file from the server and it will give you the sizes for 'faking' the 'mid' portions of the bars, I can't remember the exact dimensions but you'll see I did figure them out so that we can carry designs accross the mid panels for each whihc is very cool because it just didn't let you do that for 05. Opens up a lot more possibilities being able to design a titlepanel as a solid until instead of having that replicated gap in the middle!

If I do any more testing I'll let ya know too maybe we can work it out as a team project

sounds good ... i will let you know what i find .... i wish it was similar to the FM style of skins but no luck. The XML files make it realy easy to move stuff around the screen. why did they not use that way ?

I don't know but it probably has to do with a manpower difference between the two games; they had to kidnap Ter from working on FM 07 to create the new EHM skin and even that was a very limited/cramped timing issue so given that they were still coding their fingers off hours before the download was to go live they probably just didn't ahve the time to code support for a whole new skinning system. :dunno:

Graeme is actually still looking into some issues I have with the current system, but .jpg backgrounds should work (at least that is how they are coded to be able to work) so that is great for skin download file sizes. Two full screen .pngs could make up for over 1 meg of space just on their own; while 07's as .jpgs should fit in somewhere in the 200 to 300k range even if you make the three custom backgrounds (startup, home office and default) so that's a great difference.

Ok, so the past week or so i spent a lot of time understanding the skin format/graphics in the game and while I was a bit disappoints given the fact that the FM skin offers soooo much more room for move and creativity ... ...... I also like the improvement on the new skin system.

However I am a bit puzzled as to way, on the main team screen with all the boxes with info about your team and players, at the bottom the color that is masked by the footer bar reaches up to underneath the bottom boxes. Why did they make it so thick ? Any ideas Minty ? ..... :dunno:

All in all, I hope i can get a hold of everything and release a new skin in the next couple of weeks .... :joy:

I don't have a lot of design time lately and with the increasing complexity of the system any projects of mine for a while will only be 'elements'. Smaller projects that give alternate options for certain game elements like my textured sidebars/titlepanels. I have ideas for button sets, scrollbars, things like that on my project list among other things I want to get around to.

A fully reworked/reinvented skin like I did with my four in '05 are pretty giant projects though and I don't see having the design time for one for some time yet.

I don't think they will, as Minty said they are becoming more and more complex.

The screen size is the same overall so they'd still "fit" so to speak as the dimensions of the game areas remained about the same... but there is no update bar in the footer anymore, there are the new 'quick flick' buttons in the titlepanels and the sidepanels are very different with the new row of icons there so there would be display issues for those elements. Also it would be looking for the files for the new 2d view etc so you'd probably get a lot of errors so I doubt they'd be functional without a lot of compensating for the new files/file folders and elements.

I can, however, see at some point if I can at least update them to have all the proper files as basic 007 update versions. Stay tuned. It all depends how much design time I get and recently it's been "little to none" :swamped:

Well after a lot of trial and errors here is a first preview .... I know I know it took me a looooooooooooong time but i was trying to figure a way to make a footer bar which stays same color rather than change with the team ..... but so far it does not work. So for the moment i gave up on that issue and concentrate on other stuff...... :dunno:

All in all here is the first preview of what i did so far. Feedback is welcomed. The skin is based on an idea I saw in another application. Hope you like it.

Looks a little like my chrome skin... I like the flow of it but I'm not sure about the open top of the titlepanel. Do you have a screen of what your match titlepanels look like?

Does the font change have issues with international characters?

I think that your footer looks kind off odd off-centered at the bottom. As for changing the colorizations did you try for example to make it black or white instead of red?

EHM07 Skins?

Post by Franck »

Has anyone made any new skins (not just recolouring the original) for EHM 2007?

And is it even possible (considering the CM3 roots of EHM) to make skins of the same quality as those for FM07?

Ah another Swedish-based user! Welcome!

Nobody has made a skin for EHM 2007 yet but there are a number of 'Skin Elements'. These change certain parts of the default skin to give it a new look: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/dl ... &cat_id=39

Whilst EHM was originally based on the CM3 engine, it has been developed so much over the past three years that it can't really be compared to CM3 or any of the FM series; it is it's own game and engine. The potential to make skins for EHM is only limited by the ingenuity of those making skins. Thus it is possible to make some great skins for EHM.

I believe there is a project to work on a skin at the moment. It will take some time so all I can suggest is that you keep checking back here every once in a while.

Bobble's colourised skins

Post by Bobble »

Gentlemen, I've cooked up a new skin for EHM. It's basically a red version of the default with a few different backgrounds (one of which is Stevie Y on the opening screen -- hence I call it Wings). I just uploaded it. Hopefully, it will be up soon. If you're looking for a little change in the way your EHM looks, give it a try and let me know what you think.

See? You make a Red Wings skin and your team wins. :joy: I'd like to take all the credit but I can't deny that the actual players helped a little. ;)

Now, how to make an ANTI-Ducks skin....

dola,

I just uploaded a second skin called "Thawed". A blue version of the default. BTW, both of these skins should be compatable with all the skin elements.

Think first about an anti-Sharks skin :p

Anyway, this skin looks great :) I'm not a Wings fan, so i won't use it (nothing to deal with the Wings-Flames first round ;)), but you made a good work on it, so congrats for that

To be honest, the Wings Skin can be used by anyone who follows a team with a red jersey. All that needs doing is replacing the Red Wings backgrounds with your own 8-)

I'll check out your Thawed skin tonight if I have time after work - otherwise it will be tomorrow

Then check out "Thawed". It's a blue version of the default.

And for the rest of you Red Wing haters, the only part of the "Wings" skin that has anything to do with the Red Wings is the opening screen. You can just overwrite the wings/background/startup.png with the file from ehm_default/background/startup.png and sadly, Stevie Y goes away.
