I wouldn't. Tired of the game anyway.

Is this possible?

Post by danno »

If I have got this right, the NHL EHM developers wont make a new version?

If I have got this wrong, there is no need to read my following question.

My question is; is it possible to make a "patch" with which you can edit the starting year of the game?
If this is possible, you should edit the starting year and just update the squads.

In another game i downloaded (CM0102) Tapani had made a patch that updated the squads until 30th August 2006.
And to this he made another patch which edited the starting year. So if you are a real freak, that can do lots of thing. Why dont give it a shot?

Kind regards, Danno.

I'd love it if it were possible but unfortunately, it really isn't. The developers said that due to licensing issues, they had to hard code the starting date into the game. The only way we could do something like this would be to let the game run up until the next offseason, then use the editor to change the rosters and stuff like that, then people would have to start the new game using that save.

buins72 is right on this point. And the inconvenient of such a method is that we'd have to download a very big file to get that save game. If i remember well, saved games are around 100Mo after 1 season and something around 500Mo after 2 or 3 (but i maybe be absolutely wrong on the numbers :D), so it's not very viable

Actually, it should be possible to reverse engineer the exe and change the start date - but that would be both illegal and not something very many people would be able to do.

It has been done with older games like Frontier Elite 2 and First Encounters, where the the games are no longer for sale and developers have stopped supporting them. Some people have been able to fix bugs in these games even though the code has not been released by doing this.

Anyway, this would never happen (unless maybe the game was still going strong i 15 years but no new version was planed and SI had somehow ceased to exist) so I am just talking nerd talk :)

Not now! I mean that if a EHM08 was about to come, this game would still be in his lifetime, so it wouldn't make a lot of sense to abandon it now... Maybe later, during the next season ;)
