The Offical British Hockey Thread 2007-2008
Will do one of these for each EIHL team, and will update them as new players sign.
Basingstoke Bison:
Finished 7th in 2006-2007
Pretty mediocre season last season, finishing 7th and reaching the Quarter Finals of the playoffs, the Bison will be looking for a better season this season.
Keepers:
Dan Green: Backup netminder back for his 3rd season, needs to get his GAA below 4
Curtis Cruickshank: Mid-Season signing. Curtis spent last year split at both Newcastle and Basingstoke and it was rumoured he had retired over the summer. Following Stevie Lyle's move to Belfast, Curtis was resigned by Basingstoke. It remains to be seen whether his dodgy knees are still up to the task of getting the Bison into the playoffs.
D-men:
Eric Braff: Big Canadian defenceman back for his 2nd season. A fans favourite after they voted him player of the season last season, Eric is a good defenceman who gets the job done without giving away too many PIMs whilst contributing valuable points
Kyle Peto: New signing. Kyle started his first pro season last year in Finland but moved to Idaho Steelheads after just 19 games. At Idaho he managed 21 points and 38 PIMs in 47 games. He is a good two way defenceman.
Wes Jarvis: New signing. Wes is a 2nd round Rangers draft pick in 1997 who comes in at 6'4" and 230lbs. A big, solid defenceman Wes also has a mean left shot on him and will be looking for a few goals this season.
Mikko Purontakanen: Mid-Season signing. Mikko comes in to provide cover for the injured Peto, who is out with a broken wrist. Getting 6 points in his first 7 EIHL games he has been pushing for a more permanent move.
David Vychodil: Mid-Season signing. David spent last year at Manchester where he got a reputation for having a fiery temperament and a wicked shot. Bought in after Dean Melansons injury, David already has 2 goals in 6 games. He also spent a brief spell at Coventry Blaze.
Forwards:
Derek Campbell(LW): New signing and a big hitting Canadian left winger who last season spent 176 minutes in the box as well as getting 33 points in 82 games for the Memphis River Kings.
Greg Chambers(RW): The Canadian is back for his 3rd season in Basingstoke and looking to continue his consistent form, having got 103 points in 104 Elite League games. Another good player that Bison have managed to keep hold of.
Brad Cruikshank(RW): Another Canadian returnee who's not afraid to spend time in the box, totalling 550 minutes in the past 107 Elite League games. He can also contribute up front as well getting 52 points in 60 games last season.
Greg Owen(RW/C): The 26yr old Brit returns for his 3rd season in Basingstoke on the back of his best season ever, totalling 60 points in 60 games last season, as well as being seleced for the GB squad at the World Championships in Slovenia.
Steve Thornton(RW/C): New signing. Basingstoke faced stiff competition for this signing and will be pleased to bring Steve back to Britain following successful seasons in Italy, Switzerland and the now defunct British Super League. Although Steve has represented Britain at international level he is considered to be an import. He will also act as assistant coach and looks to be a good signing.
Greg Wood(C/LW): Back for his 3rd season at Basingstoke the young Brit will be looking for a better season this season after only managing 3 points in 50 games last year.
Danny Stewart(LW): New signing. Drafter #123 by Montreal in the 2003 NHL draft, Danny spent some of his QMJHL years with Sidney Crosby. He is a good winger who is equally adept at getting goals and assists, getting 16 and 17 last year, respectively.

Cardiff Devils:
Finished 3rd in 2006-2007, won the Knockout Cup, runners up in the Playoffs.
Cardiff had a good season last year, culminating in a shootout loss in the playoffs. They also won the knockout cup and will be looking to improve by winning the playoffs this season.
Keepers:
Phil Osaer: Cardiff's no.1 netminder is back for another season after a very good first year in South Wales. The American-born netminder managed .921 save% last year and only let 2.72 goals past him per game. One of the best netminders in the league.
Joe Myers: Joe is a 19 yr old goalie who has come up through the ranks at Cardiff, and finds hims elf as number 2 for the Devils. In his 2 games last season he let in 2.0 GAA and had a .944 Save%, which is very good for a young netminder. He will be looking for mre experience this year.
D-men:
Jason Stone: This will be Jason's 19th season with Cardiff, and he has great experience out on the ice. A consistent performer Jason will have to stay solid if Cardiff want the playoff trophy.
Tyson Teplitsky: Returning for his 2nd season, Tyson is a dangerous offensive defenceman. He has a great shot as well as good passing ability.
Mike Garrow: New signing. This is Mike's 2nd spell in Cardiff, after a good first year getting 47 points in 59 games he moved to Aalborg in Denmark. Mike is a slick passing defender who can contribute goals when needed.
Phil Hill: New signing. Phil moves from the Steelers on the back of his best ever Elite season, scoring 16 points in 40 regular season matches. This will be his 6th season in Cardiff and despite his young age he is already very experienced.
Alex Symonds: 19yr old Alex returns and will be looking for regular ice time this season following his 45 games last year. The Devils believe that Alex is good enough to take a bigger role in the side despite his young age.
Forwards:
Brad Voth(RW): Brad returns for his 3rd season, and he's bound to spend a lot of it in the sin bin. At 6ft 5" he's not afraid to throw his weight around and is vital on the penalty kill. He is also team captain and can also help out offensively.
Gerad Adams(RW/D): Head Coach Adams can slot in on the wing or in defence, and he returns for his 3rd season. Another player who is not afraid to throw his weight around Gerad has plenty of PIMs but he can help out offensively as well, when needed.
Matt Towe(C/RW): New Signing. Matt spent last year at the Sheffielf Scimitars in the EPIHL and managed 70 points. Matt is a young brit who can play at centre or on the wing.
Nicky Lewis(RW): This season sees Nicky playing in the EPIHL for the Romford Raiders, whilst still training with the Devils and stepping up when needed. He was pointless last season and will be looking for experience whilst playing for the Raiders. Is regarded as a hot prospect
Paul Sample(RW/LW): Team GB international Sample returns to Cardiff after having a good season getting himself 36 points in 64 games last season. He is not afraid to do time in the penalty box either, amassing 77 PIMs last year.
Max Birbraer(RW/LW): Max returns for his 2nd season at Cardiff, after proving to be a hit last year. 65 points in 59 points proves he is dangerous in Britain and the Welsh fans will be hoping for more of the same.
Matus Petricko(C): New signing. Matus has the quality to be a very good player in this league but he had a disappointing season at Nottingham, only managing 39 points in 57 games. He should be looking for a point per game this season.
Sylvain Deschatelets(C): New signing. Sylvain is a Canadian centre who has spent the past 2 years in Europe. He has proven he can get points in the Swiss B league and the Italian Serie A and should be a good signing for the Devils.
Jason Silverthorn(RW/LW): New signing. Jason spent last year at the Edinburgh Capitals getting 43 points in 39 games in difficult circumstances. He has signed for 2 years and will be a good addition to the forward lines of Cardiff
Neil Francis(RW): Neil returns for his 13th season at Cardiff after missing some time last year with injury. Neil is not afraid to sit out time in the box and will give his all for his teammates.
Mike Prpich(LW): Mid-Season signing Mike joined towards the end of October and has been a solid two-way offenceman. Spending last season in the CHL with the Scorpions he amassed 45 points and 188 PIMs.

Coventry Blaze:
Finished 1st in 2006-2007, won the Challenge Cup, runners up in the Knockout cup.
Coventry had a very successful season last year, winning the double and only just missing out on a clean sweep, making it to the semi finals of the playoffs. Coventry will be playing in Europe this season and will be looking to retain the Elite title and push on for the playoffs next season.
Keepers:
Trevor Koenig: In Trevor the Blaze have one of the best keepers in the league, getting a .929 save% last season letting in only 2.13 GAA. He was also named to the Elite league 1st All Star team for the 2nd year running. Koenig supplies the Blaze with a strong backbone for the rest of the team to build on.
Stephen Fone: Stephen is a young netminder who will play backup to Trevor again this season. He posted a 0.877 save% last year when called upon and will always be looking to improve in the limited appearences he gets. Stephen has moved to Romford Raiders on a 2-way deal.
D-men:
Neal Martin: Neal returns for his 4th season in Coventry on the back of a good season, in which he got 40 points in 61 games whilst sitting out 70 minutes in the box. Neal is strong defensively and helps out offensively by getting valuable assists. He is a Team Canada international and has been in the All Star team every season he has been at Coventry.
Jonathan Weaver: New signing. The Blaze have added British defenceman Weaver to their blueline for the next 3 years, and are confident he will prove to be a star. He managed a massive 71 points from the blueline last year for the Vipers. He is Britain's best defenceman and will add an offensive dimension to the Blaze back line.
James Pease: Even though James is only 24 he already has 485 appearances for the Blaze. He is a Team GB international and is a solid defensive defenceman for Coventry.
KC Timmons: Mid-Season signing After a poor start for the Phoenix, KC moved to league leaders Coventry, where he will split his time between defence and offence. Came in to replace the injured Rumun Ndur.
Mathias Söderström: New signing. Mathias has played in Britain 6 years now and spent 3 of those in Coventry. He is a defenceman who will get some points when needed but will also take the penalties when needed. He managed 20 points last year for the Telford Tigers who had a poor season.
Forwards:
Joe Henry(LW/RW): 17 yr old Joe is returning to Coventry and will be looking to improve his strength this season. He got his first points last season and Coventry will be wanting more of a return this season as continues his development.
Russ Cowley(RW/LW): New signing. GB international Russ is returning to the Blaze after spending the summer at the World Championships and last season at the Devils. Edinburgh Capitals:
Finished 10th in 2006-2007.
The Capitals had a very difficult season last season, including several players leaving and getting injured at the same time(near the end of the season they played a game with 12 players, then another one got injured in that match), and will be looking to improve this season. Realistically reaching the playoffs will be a success for the Muirrayfield club.
Keepers:
J.F. Perras: New signing. The Capitals have bought in a new keeper this season, Perras moves from CHL team Lubbock Cotton Kings obtaining a .919 save% and letting in 2.82 goals a game. It remains to be seen whether he can be the solid keeper that the Capitals need.
Ryan Ford: Ryan has spent all of his career playing in Murrayfield as backup netminder. He will again be looking for the odd game here and then when Perras can't complete a game.
D-men:
Kyle Horne: Kyle spent the 2nd half of last season at Edinburgh and managed 5 points and 16 PIMs in 23 matches. He is a consistent performer at EPIHL level, getting 18 points and 44 PIMs last season for Slough, and should be a solid defenceman for the Capitals.
Ben O'Connor: Mid-Season signing. Ben moved during the trouble in Basingstoke, and is a promising defenceman who can also play in left wing when required. He has experience in North America and is also part of the GB setup.
Ryan Crane: New signing. Ryan signs from Lillehammer in Norway, where he spent the latter of last season. He also has experience of the ECHL, UHL as well as the Australian league. He was named ECHL rookie of the year in 2002 and best defenceman the year after. A good signing for the Capitals.
Patrik Luza: The Slovak defenceman was a star last season, getting 44 points from the Capitals Blueline, and will be looking for a similar numbers this year. Patrik is now 35 and Capitals will be looking to get the most of him whilst they still can.
Mark Paterson: New Signing. Mark is a young scot who spent last season at the National Sports Academy in Lake Placid. He will be looking for EIHL experience this year, as Edinburgh look to bring through their youth players.

Forwards:
Martin Cingel(RW/LW): The Slovak is now an institution at Edinburgh, having joined the club in 2002. He was one of their best players last season getting 48 points in 56 difficult games. Martin will be vital to the clubs if they want to improve this season.
Doug Christiansen(RW/D): New signing. Doug joins after a short spell for SV Renon in Italy, before them he spent most of last season at the Reading Royals. He got 23 points in 60 games sitting out 112 minutes in the box. Do not let the low points tally fool you, he has previously scored big poinst in the ECHL and if he can recapture that form he could be deadly. Looks like he could be handy at both ends of the ice.
Iain Bowie(RW/LW): No relation to David, but Iain had an ok season last year, when given the chance to play at Edinburgh, getting 6 points in 19 games. Should contribute the odd point this season, probably nothing more.
Mark Garside(RW): Mark managed 10 points in 43 games from the wing last year, having joined from the Canadian Midget leagues. Mark will be looking to improve that tally this year.
Neil Hay(LW/RW): Neil returns to the Capitals for his 6th season there, and he played well last year getting 15 points in 48 games. Neil has a bright future ahead of him.
Colin Hemingway(RW/LW): New signing. Colin has NHL, AHL & ECHL experience and is a 2-time All-American during his time at New Hampshire University. Not only that but he set a record for game winning goals at NCAA level as well as scoring one of the best goals at that level. Colin has the potential to be a very good player for the Capitals.
Mike Stutzel(LW/RW): New signing. Mike joins from Victoria in the ECHL and has experience in the NHL and AHL. He has 97 ECHL points in 102 games in the last 2 season as well as spending 161 minutes in the penalty box. Mike will be handy at both ends of the ice and is a good signing for Edinburgh.
Adam Stefishen(LW/D): New signing. Adam moves from Rocky Mountain Rage in the CHL and will be Edinburgh's enforcer this season, after spending 228 minutes in the penalty box last season.
Dino Bauba(LW/C): Dino is a fans favourite who is returning for his 4th season at Edinburgh, managing 44 points in 50 games last season, as well as 179 PIMs. He will most likely be starting on the 3rd line this year.
Ross Dagleish(RW): Despite only being 19 Ross is back for his 4th season at the Capitals, and will be looking to improve on his 5 points scored last year from the right wing.
Jordan Steele: Jordan is a young forward who will be looking to gain valuable experience in his 1st season since moving up from the juniors.

Hull Stingrays:
Finished 9th in 2006-2007.
Hull finished joint bottom with Edinburgh in their first season in the Elite league, and will be looking to improve this season. They always bring young brits into their side and that can be seen with their signings this season. Reaching the playoffs will be a success this season.
Keepers:
Tom Chamberlain: Tom returns as backup after providing cover last year when Hull's #1 was injured, during which he managed .864 save% and 4.62 GAA in his 13 Elite matches. Tom will be looking to improve this season whilst providing cover for Kudrna.
Ladislave Kudrna: New signing. Ladislav returns to Hull after 2 seasons away, he played for Newcastle during the playoffs last year letting in 2.50 GAA in his 2 matches whilst saving .937 of his shots. Ladislav is a proven EIHL keeper and is used to playing in Britain having spent 4 seasons here.
D-men:
Luke Boothroyd: Luke is a young Brit who returns to Hull after putting 3 points and 46 PIMs in his 56 games last year. Luke also broke into Team GB and got 1 point and was +3 in his 5 games in the World Chapionships.

Nikolai Ladygin: Nikolai had a good season last year getting 32 points in 60 games whilst sitting out 76 minutes in the box. Nikolai is a proven EIHL quality player and has a mean slapshot, scoring 12 last year.
Bryce Thoma: New signing. Bryce joins the Stingrays on the back of winning the Western conference of the ECHL with the Las Vegas Wranglers. He is a solid defenceman who doesn't take unnecessary penalties.
Jani Virtanen: Mid-Season signing. Jani replaces the injured Luini, however he sustained an injury in his first match for the Stingrays and has still not recovered
Steve Lee: Steve returns after hoping to make into the CHL import draft. He is a 16yr old defenceman with a bright future ahead of him and he is comfortable playing EIHL hockey.
Forwards:
Rob Rankin(RW/LW): New signing. Rob joins from the Pensacola Ice Pilots in the ECHL where he was selected for all star game as well as being the 4th highest points scoring rookie. He also spent 172 minutes in the penalty box and was called up to the AHL team Bridgeport Sound Tigers for a couple of games. Rob should be a good signing for Hull and could be key for them at both ends of the ice.
James Knight(RW/C): James is a British forward who spent the early part of his career in Canada playing in the WHL and the MJHL. This will be the 21 yr old's 2nd season in Hull, in his first he managed 5 points and 69 PIMs in his 50 games last season. Never afraid to take time off in the penalty box Hull will be looking for more from James offensively this year.
Lee Mitchell(C/RW): This will be Lee's 3rd season for Hull, and he had an ok season last year. He managed 13 points and 31 PIMs in his 56 games. He is one for the future and may represent Team GB soon.
Jeff Glowa(C/RW): Jeff's back for his 4th season and he has been a consistent points scorer in each of those 4 seasons. He posted 47 points in 60 games last year and will be one of Hull's main threats offensively this season. He also showed his tough side last year spending 100 minutes in the box. A key player for Hull.
Cole Byers(LW/D): Cole is a physical forward who can slot into defence when needed. He spent 68 minutes in the penalty box in his 34 games last year, but he also showed he can help out offensively by adding 16 points.
Jake Riddle(LW/RW): New signing. Jake is a 6' winger who joins from Utah Grizzlies in the ECHL. He has years of ECHL experience and is another big forward for Hull. Expect them to be a physical team this year.
Brad Patterson(C): New signing. This is Brad's second stint in Nottingham, after getting 21 points in 39 games for Nottingham 2 years ago. He will probably start on one of the top 2 lines and Hull will be looking for some solid points scoring from him.
Slava Koulikov(LW/RW): Mid-Season signing. Slava has proven his worth in the EIHL, he is classed as a Brit and can score a lot of points. He joined the Stingrays after a poor start in Basingstoke.
Lee Esders(LW/RW): New signing. Lee joins from Newcastle ENL Vipers and has spent all of his senior career in the ENL. It remains to be seen whether he can make the step up to EIHL level.

Manchester Phoenix:
Finished 6th in 2006-2007.
After complications with the construction of their new rink, Phoenix didn't play at home until March 2007. Despite this the team managed a respectable 6th place and quarter finals of the playoffs. They will be looking to improve this season and challenge for some silverware.
Keepers:
Scott Fankhouser: New signing. Scott is an ex-NHL keeper and has the potential to be one of the best keepers in the league. He didn't have a great season last year although he was behind a poor Vienna defence. He likes to come out of the net and play the puck when he can, and he is capable of getting a few assists in the season.
Aran Fox: New signing and the first to make the step up from the Phoenix U-19 team to the seniors. Aran will be using this season to learn from the no.1 netminder. Aran has recently decided to spend more time on his off-ice commitments, Benn Schofield & Adam Summerfield will also be deputising in net.
D-men:
Scott Basiuk: Captain Basiuk returns this year after an OK season last year. He managed 22 points and 109 PIMs in 60 games and will be looking to work on his offensive play this year.
Simon Mangos: Simon is a defender who is effective at both ends of the ice. He added some valuable goals and assists last season getting 41 points in 60 games and was one of Phoenix's most consistent performers, a good returnee.
Jeff MacMillan: New signing and a big one at that. He is 6ft 5" and a hard hitter, and has played the majority of his career in the AHL. Should excel in the physical brand of hockey played in Britain.
Carl Graham: New signing. Carl spent last year in the EPIHL with the Wightlink Raiders. He is a hard hitting British defenceman who isn't afraid to use his weight.
Omar Ennaffati: New Signing. Omar is a Hungarian international who missed out on the World Championships due to injury. He has experience in N.America and Europe and is another solid defenceman for Phoenix.
Forwards:
Adam Walker(C): The first player to be re-signed by the Phoenix, Adam is an up and coming Scottish centre. He got 23 points in his first full season in the EIHL last year and will be looking to add to that. He looked comfortable on the 3rd line and played well on the 2nd line when needed. A good prospect for Team GB also.
Matt Rich(RW): Matt is another young Scot and he will be looking to improve on last years 5 points. Matt is suffering from Salmonella and may be out until christmas.
Tony Hand(C): Tony confirmed recently that he will carry on playing for the Phoenix this season as well as coaching. He had another good season last year getting 76 points in 57 games. This could be his last season, but he is looking to add to his 2936 career points this year and could be on for his 3000th point.
Rhys McWilliams(LW): New signing. Rhys will join Adam and Matt on the 'Brit' line, having spent last season at the Solihull Barons in the EPIHL before spending some time at the Coventry Blaze. He amassed 25 points and 126 PIMs last year in the EPIHL, and will add much needed weight to the 3rd line.
Luke Stauffacher(LW): Mid-Season signing Despite only being 5'8" Luke isn't afraid to get stuck in to the opposition. He has already had 1 fight in his first few Phoenix games and has started to impress after a slightly slow start.
Brett Clouthier(LW/RW): Brett is a fans favourite after moving to Manchester in the middle of last season. At 6ft 5" he is not afraid to throw his weight around. Often drops the gloves and usually wins too he also managed 20 points in the 23 games he played at Manchester last season.
Brian Passmore(LW/C): New signing. Brian joins from the Augusta Lynx where he turned down a qualifying offer to move to Manchester. Brian can play both on the wing and in the centre and managed 31 points in 30 for Augusta after a poor start to the season in Norway.
Sean Starke(C): New signing. Sean joins from UHL's Quad City Mallards where he 59 points and 130 PIMs in 76 games. He averaged over a point a game at NCAA level and is not afraid to defend his teammates by getting into scraps. Also appears to be a shootout specialist!
Nick Whyatt(D/RW): New signing. Nick has been bought in to provide cover for the injured Matt Rich. He is a utility man who will be used in the RW role until Matt is back, after this he is able to slot back into defence if needed. Last season for Telford he managed 8 points in 43 games, sitting out 120 minutes in the box.
Joe Tallari(RW/LW): New signing. Joe spent last year at the Las Vegas Wrangles in the ECHL and racked up 31 points in 49 games. He has an eye for goal and is willing to work out defensively as well as offensively. He looks to be starting on the first line with Hand & Passmore who s hould be the main points scorers for Phoenix this year.

Newcastle Vipers:
Finsihed 8th in 2006-2007.
The Vipers grabbed the final playoff spot last season, before losing out to Coventry in the playoff quarter finals. They will be looking to improve on that this season by challenging for silverware.
Keepers:
Mark Lee: Mark is probably the best young netminder in Britain currently, he has also signed a two-way contract at Mahoning Valley Phantoms in NAHL, meaning he will get ice time this season - something which he needs if he wants to succeed Stevie Lyle as GB's #1.
Richard Lawson: Lawson is a young keeper who has stepped up into the #2 netminder role to replace Lee whilst he is at Mahoring Valley. At only 16 it is unlikely Richard will play much, if at all, this season but the training will be valuable experience for him.
Ryan MacDonald: New signing. Ryan joins from the Fresno Falcons where he posted a 0.925 save% in the ECHL, the leagues 2nd highest lat year. He was waiting for a call to the NHL but never received so joined Newcastle. He is still only 22 and has a bright future ahead of him.
D-men:
Pavel Gomenyuk: New signing. Pavel is back for his 2nd stint at Newcastle having spent last season at Hull, where he managed 28 points and 198 PIMs in 59 games. Proficient at both ends of the ice Pavel may prove to be a shrewd signing by the Vipers.
Jeremy Lundin: Jeremy had a pretty uneventful season last year not getting a point and spending 10 minutes in the box in 43 games, but he is highly thought of in Newcastle. He will be getting more ice time this year and will be looking to improve.
Mark Gouett: New signing. Mark signs from the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and has proved he can play in the EIHL having spent a season at the London Racers. He is a stay at home defenceman who is good at his job and has a mean streak too. A good signing by Newcastle.
Richie Thornton: Richie returns to Newcastle in what will be his 5th season at the club. He is a solid stay at home defenceman who will always give 100%
Ben Storey: New signing. Ben joins from EHC Black Wings Linz where he managed 39 points in 28 games, 21 of which were goals. He has ECHL, AHL and Austrian league experience and was tempted by the possibility of getting his masters degree at Newcastle, a good signing.
Forwards:
Jeff Hutchins(C): New signing. Jeff is spending his 3rd season in the EIHL playing for the Vipers. Jeff has been very successful at both Coventry and Belfast with a total of 109 points in 106 games in Britain, and he will spearhead the top line for the Vipers this season.
Derek Campbell(LW/RW): New signing. Derek, like other players, was enticed to Newcastle by the offer of receiving education whilst playing for the Vipers. He had an excellent first season in Britain getting 71 points in 59 points as well as amassing 224 PIMs, dropping the gloves regularly.
David Longstaff(LW): David is one of Britain's best ever players, whilst not being on Tony Hand's level he has consistently performed in Britain with 922 points in 863 games. He had another good season last year with 68 points in 59 games and ended as the 3rd highest British points scorer. He also got 2 points in the World Championships this summer, expect him to be on the first line with Hutchins and Campbell.
Ben Campbell(LW/C): Ben is a speedy winger starting his 2nd season for the Vipers. He will be looking to improve on his 5 points last season.
Dean Holland(LW): Dean only played 10 games for the Vipers last season, but he impressed them enough to keep him on for another season. He will probably be getting more ice time this year.
Nathan Taylor(C/RW): Nathan is another young Brit who is returning for his 2nd year. He is not afraid to put himself about and will be looking to improve this season.
Sergiy Rublivsky(RW): New signing. Sergiy is a skillful Ukrainian with an eye for goal, getting 21 last season for the Hull stingrays. Sergiy will add some offensive flair to the 2nd line of Newcastle and will be looking for 25+ goals this season.
Shaun Johnson(C): One of the best penalty killers in the league, Shaun has spent 10 years at Newcastle. He is a GB international and can help out offensively, as he proved last season getting 26 points in 58 games.
Andre Payette(LW): Andre returns for his 3 season at Newcastle and his 4th in Britain, he is a Canadian power forward who helps out at both ends of the ice. He managed 40 points and 346 PIMs last year in 59 games last year.
Colin Shields(C): New signing. Colin is the highest NHL drafted British player, and was only 2nd ever British player to be drafted. Colin is back in Britain after spending last season in the ECHL with the Idaho Steelheads and the Fresno Falcons, he managed 43 points and 32 PIMs last year. The last time he was in the EIHL he amassed 41 points in 27 matches, and should be a good signing.
Todd Jackson(RW): Mid-Season signing. Todd joins from Phoenix in the ECHL where he amassed 34 points in 56 games, as well as 50 PIMs. Started well for the Vipers he has 16 points in 20 games, 13 of which have been assists.

Nottingham Panthers:
Finished 5th in 2006-2007.
After a roller coaster ride the club finished 5th in the regular season standings. Then came the play-offs and this proved to be the highlight of the season. The Panthers faced their arch rivals Sheffield in tight game, which ended in a penalty shoot-out. The Panthers went on to Sheffield and went through to the finals weekend in their own rink.
Incredibly the Panthers' would go on to beat Belfast and Cardiff in two dramatic shoot-outs and were eventually crowned bmibaby Elite League Champions for 2007.
Keepers:
Tom Aksey: Mid-Season figning Tom has NHL experience and already has 2 shutouts to his name after only a handful of games. A solid signing he is a vast improvement on Rovnianek.
Geoff Woolhouse: Geoff is a young keeper who always performs when asked upon, and has a lot of experience at EIHL level.
D-men:
Robert Stancok: New signing, For Stancok it's a return after a three year absence having previously played under Paul Adey. The defenceman has spent three seasons playing in the Slovakian Elite League. Stancok is a strong versatile defenseman who looks to repeat his form of 03/04, which landed him the clubs MVP award.
Corey Neilson: Following a successful 06/07, The right sided Canadian will return to the club for another season, hoping to repeat last seasons’ success.
Mike Rees: Retired The left sided defenseman is a solid dependable team player. He was a key player in defence for Nottingham last year and comes back excited about the prospect of aiming for a league title. Mike has taken a job offer outside of the sport and has retired from hockey.
Danny Meyers: Meyers says it was the easiest decision he's ever made in his career to return to the Nottingham Panthers for a second season.
Steve Pelletier: New signing. Steve has played the last 250 games in a row and hasn't missed a game of his 3 year pro career through injury. He is a steady defenceman who will chip in with the odd assist or goal every now and then.
Forwards:
Marc Levers(RW/C): New signing, comes back to the city where he learned his hockey. After playing through the age ranks with the Nottingham club the 26-year-old forward moved to the EPL and the BNL and most recently played at Belfast in the top flight for the past three seasons.

Ryan Shmyr(LW/RW): The no-nonsense six feet six inch forward/defenceman helped the club to the play-off championships last season and was feared around the league. Sheffield Steelers:
Finished 4th in 2006-2007 and runners up of the Challenge Cup.
Sheffield had an ok season last year but would have been expecting some silverware. They failed to make it to the playoff semis and will be looking for an improvement this year.
Keepers:
Jody Lehman: Jody returns for his 3rd season at Sheffield after an alright season last year, getting a .916 save% and letting in 2.72 GAA. The Steelers will want an improvement by Jody if they are to win silverware.
Davey Lawrence: Davey is still young but has been at the Steelers for 4 years now and is always ready to back up Jody when required.
D-men:
Steve Munn: New signing. Steve joins from the AHL where he spent the last 2 seasons, and before that he won 2 ECHL titles. He looks to be a solid stay at home defenceman and at 6' 2" and 210 pounds he's not afraid to throw his weight around. A good signing by the Steelers
Randy Dagenais: New signing. Randy joins from the Italian Serie A where he had 2 successful seasons at SV Renon. He is solid defenceman who will help out on the PP with valuable assists. Expect him to post some good points this season.
Ian Manzano: Ian returns to the Steelers after managing 23 points and 54 PIMs in 61 games during his first season in Sheffield. He is a reliable defenceman who has an offensive side to him as well.
Rod Sarich: Rod returns for his 3rd season after 2 successful years in the Elite league. He has excellent stickhandling and passing ability and should post some good points come the end of the season.
Mark Thomas: The 23yr old Brit returns for his 3rd season at Sheffield and had his best Elite season last year managing 10 points from the Steelers blueline. He is also a Team GB international
Forwards:
Doug Sheppard(RW): New signing. Jeff spent the last 3 years at the Basingstoke Bison in a player-coach role and took them to the playoffs last season. Doug averages just under a point a game in the EIHL and the Steelers will be looking for him to keep that record this season.
Jeff Legue(C/LW): New signing. Jeff had a good season for Landsberg in Germany where he had a good season with 55 points in 52 games. Jeff is known for his speed and his excellent stickhandling skills and could prove to be a good player in the EIHL.
Joe Talbot(LW): New signing. Joe spent 4 years in the ECHL for Alaska where he won a championship. Joe has posted some good numbers in the ECHL and a lot is expected from him in the coming season.
Ryan Finnerty(C): Ryan joined mid way through last season managing 21 points and 101 PIMs in 23 matches. Ryan is quick and skillful with a good pass but he tends to spend too long in the penalty box due to his aggression.
Jason Hewitt(C/RW): Jason is a hard working Mancunian who gives his all every shift, and will play centre for the Steeler's 3rd line. No stranger to the penalty box Jason can also provide valuable points in a season.
Jonathan Phillips(RW): Phillips is the teams captain and an experienced British winger. He plays both ends of the ice well and comes of the back of his most fruitful Elite season ever, managing 32 points in 60 games.
Ashley Tait(RW/C): New signing. Tait left the Blaze to play on Sheffield's 3rd line on the back of a 59 points season. One of Britains top forwards Tait is a good signing for the Steelers.
Warren Tait(C): Ashley's younger brother is back in Sheffield for his 3rd season, and is one of the Steeler's most dependable players. He is a Team GB international and will give his all for every shift he plays.
Jeremy Cornish(LW): New signing. Jeremy is a 6'3" 3rd line winger who will give his all every shift. However the Steelers fans feel he may be too 1-dimensional and a little disappointed with his signing, time will tell if they are right or not.

Also Battaglia didn't get a qualifying offer from Columbia Inferno so he's free to move where he wants, wouldn't mind seeing him back in Manchester.
Also there's an interesting article on why north american, mainly ECHL, players move to Europe and their experiences here: http://www.bonitanews.com/news/2007/jun ... ean_union/
And another thing(my 2nd edit!) there's a cool video of Brett Clouthier on the main Manchester Phoenix(www.manchesterphoenix.co.uk) website, basically sums up why everyone loves him so much

just tell us!
Phoenix sign netminder
Saturday, 7th July 2007
The Manchester Phoenix office have confirmed that signed contract paperwork has been received from the clubs new goalie.
Speaking to us here at the club website, GM Andy Costigan advised, "The fax started to whirl and gurgle on Friday and I'm delighted to confirm it was the paperwork we've been waiting for. I've spoken to the player myself and so it's all systems go to release the news... on Tuesday morning. As Tony said last week at the "Big One" supporters event, he is very happy to sign this player as he feels he could be right up there with the best goalies in the league."
We tried hard to get him to give us a clue, but without success. But, the good news for everyone is the player has signed, the paperwork has been received and in a couple of days, the waiting will be over.
