Yup.

In game it happens automatically.

Only other way is the editor.

I have actually never seen this happen. I have Sundin retire with the Leafs in a couple of seasons and never has his jersey been retired

There is a way to do this but not the way you should be able to or the way anyone wants to do it:

You first have to set in the extra config file, players already retired or still playing whom you believe will have their jerseys retired. Player name, number, team, and date of jersey retirement.

The players you add to this before you start a new game will have their numbers retired after they retire.

The other way, with retired players is you need to go into the Pregame Editor and set the players status to retired and have them as a "non-player." Players or former players are I should say with the stats good enough deemed in the game will be placed in the Hall of Fame. You just have to do the same thing with the extra config file and it SHOULD work.

As I said, it's not 100% going to work but I've never had any problems with it.

It's a shame, really. Retiring jerseys are a nice touch, and I've been "manually" retiring jerseys since the 1st EHM, keeping numbers from great players unavaible by taking notes and making sure no one grabs them.

ok quick question
Matt Niskanen just turned 41 in my save game. He spent every Season of his Career in a Stars Uniform and has had yearly stats of 70+ points. (He is 5th all time in assists). His contract was up when he was 40, He wouldn't resign(had no interest) he has sat in FA for a year now. i assume he is going to retire soon, Will i still be able to retire his Jersey, or is he screwed because he wouldn't resign?

I've had Sundin retire his jersey. Not sure about Niskanen, my guess is it probably won't happen, but, since he didn't sign with anybody there's a chance (did he have any interest in scouting?)

From what I've gathered over the years, EHM's jersey retiring is pretty dodgy... so my safe guess would be that his jersey won't be retired.

Probably best to stick to manual methods, like not giving his number out anymore(if it's your team, and not the AI's).
