Is there any way to prevent a player from retiring? Also, is there any way to prevent a member of your staff from retiring? I have a player and a staff member that I really don't want to lose yet (Pat Quinn as Assistant GM; helped me win the past two Stanley Cups, out of my first four seasons with the Penguins). And I am fearful that Peter Forsberg may retire next season, but he has been my best player with no injuries (yes, hard to believe), and increasing stats over the four seasons. Thanks!
Also, if there is a way to prevent Mario Lemiuex from selling the team in year two, I'd appreciate that (since he ended up keeping them in real life)!
Sorry about all the tone of "let me keep this guy!" But I guess I am a traditionalist.

Yes. Mario Lemieux sold the team to some new guy (never heard of him before). I was hoping to return the team to its rightful ownership group somehow. And I seem to remember that there was a way too extend a player's career using a file outside the game; and am in hopes someone knew of that. The Pat Quinn thing stinks, but hey, he is getting old (2010 - 67 years old). As per the player, if someone knows anything, please give me the advice. Thanks everyone.
EDIT: I found the player "unretire" trick.

Need to stop a player from retiring? Here's how.......
1. Open your players.ehm file with notepad, hit CTRL-F and find your player.
Here are the # to look at:

Notice the red 1? That is the players status, 1means he is retiring at the end of the season, change that # to 0.
2. Need to bring back a player who is already retired? You need to do this right after he retires, if you wait too long, he will be gone forever.
Here is what to change:

Ken has retired, what we need to change is, the red #'s in lines 2 and 3 and 20, they need to be your teams #, here is a list of team values
Next, make sure the first number in line 7 is 0. Once that is all done, he is back. Enjoy!

There is a way using the Saved Game editors. Save your game straight after the season when you think the player or staff will retire before they have chance to hang em up. Then load up the Saved Game Editor and edit their age to something younger, say 10 years younger or so, so that they definitely will not retire. Save it and load up the game again, sim the rest of the off season and when training camp comes along, save the game, load up the editor again and edit the age of the player/staff back to the normal older age. I've done this to keep players playing till 50, theoretically I suppose you could do it forever.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tip. I make frequent backups, so I'll just start keeping backups for the end of each season, and do it that way. Thanks. Does this also work for the younger guys that retire because they can't support their family, etc? I've had a couple guys drop off when I released them late in the year as a business decision, fully intending to get them back again.
--The one that really stunk was Mike McKenna. He was a great goalie for me in my farm system, developing into a NHL backup goalie. Then he asked for to much, so I released his rights to give him a chance to play elsewhere. When I noticed he had not been signed, and I had the roster space, I was going to bring him back in the offseason, but then he retired, at 25 years old. McKenna is a player I recommend getting if you need a backup.
I'll try this qith Pat Quinn later tonight, or tomorrow, and I'll post whether it works with staff as well.
