Bringing the Whalers back?
I know I'll probably get banned and thrown into a bottomless pit for making a new thread about this but I have no idea where to put this.
Well, since I have been intoxicating my ears with Brass Bonanza all night and I am quite bored with my Blackhawks save I figured I'd bring back the Whalers and have some fun with them.
However I figured that I'd have to sort out a few things first:
1. Do I relocate the Preds or the Thrashers? (I consider both to be nothing but pure S***e located in places where hockey doesn't belong)
2. How do I realign the divisions and conferences and which teams should go where?
3. What should I do with the Wolfpack?
And finally, how difficult would doing something like this be?
Has anyone by chance done something like this before?

Run before you have the chance to be condemned Franck.
It would be quite easy as all you in theory need to do is change the names of the teams in the Pre-Game Editor. Of course things like team colours need to be changed. Just create a new affiliate with a new logo or something. Or add an old team. No need to swap the divisions around, Nashville and Hartford can both be classed the North East of America can they not?

Nashville is in the Western conference and are in the northern parts of the American South, Hartford is in Connetcut between NYC and Boston, so no.getzlaf15 wrote:Run before you have the chance to be condemned Franck.

Came across a few things when using the editor.
Is there any way of making it so that the player histories still say that they played for Nashville and not Hartford in the previous season when I change the name of the team?
Or do I have to deactivate Nashville, create Hartford as a totally new team and move over all the players and switch the rights for all their unsigned prospects for that to work?
How am I supposed to interpret the market size and fan support bits in the editor?
I suppose the market size should be set with having both the city size and local interest in hockey in mind? As LA Kings and the Blackhawks markets are set to be smaller than the Boston or Detroit markets despite being based in much more populous cities?

At the end you have to change contracts and rights of all former Predators to the Whalers. If you don't do that they will be free agents.
Tricky. I guess market size should be quite small (6? 7?) for Hartford while fan interest is moderately high (13? 14?).Franck wrote: How am I supposed to interpret the market size and fan support bits in the editor?

Heh, I've had this done for a long time - I brought back Hartford, Quebec & Winnipeg at the expense of Atlanta, Florida & Nashville, giving me an alignment thus:
Northeast:
Buffalo
Montreal
Ottawa
Quebec
Toronto
Atlantic:
Boston
Hartford
New Jersey
NY Islanders
NY Rangers
Southeast:
Carolina
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Tampa Bay
Washington
Central:
Chicago
Columbus
Detroit
Minnesota
St. Louis
Northwest:
Calgary
Colorado
Edmonton
Vancouver
Winnipeg
Pacific was unchanged.
As for the case of players & prospects, you should be able to search through both if you have the same editor I do, just move them all to whatever team you want.
The minor leagues have been completely redone and I won't go into it here, but if you're just bringing Hartford in, you can create say, Lake Erie to take their place.
Finally, don't forget to change team affiliations, or some clubs will have no minor league system in place.
Feel free to ask anything you like, I've been editing this game constantly for a long time.

Yep there's only 27 teams allowed in the AHL, but 29 in real life - I have all the current AHL teams, replacing Hartford with Lake Erie, and Manitoba with Rockford, and I've also replaced Omaha with Quad City.getzlaf15 wrote:Crosby, whom have you got changed in the AHL, i always attempt to arrange it so it's as real as possible, but there just isn't enough teams in the hard-code to have the correct AHL?
Franck, you could perhaps replace Nashville with Hartford, and swap the Whalers to the Atlantic - moving Pittsburgh to the Central... just an idea.
