Force players into retirement

Post by hockeyguy34 »

I am trying to force two players into retirement. Joe Thornton has nearly 3000 career points and is 42 years old. Marleau has almost 800 goals and is also 42. I want them to retire so their jerseys can be retired. What can I do, in game and with the editor, to achieve this?

I think you cannot retire jersey.
And you cannot force a player to retire using editor. The changes apply only for new game, not saved ones.
Basically, there's no way how to force a player to retire.

I figured you can't directly make them retire. But would changing their age or attributes make them retire earlier?

yeah if you make them as old as u can and make them injury prone then there more likely to retire.

Like Mcqwak says it's only work when you start a new game, so this couldn't work in is game.

It is possible but a player has to put up big numbers and play with that team for a long time. It's reference in one of the hints when loading.

It's in the game, but I'm 99% sure it's bugged. I've never seen anyone have a jersey retirement.

I had a player who stuck with me in Rangers for 22 years, scoring 1083 goals and 1604 assists in 1676 games. Another player who played about 17 seasons for me, and in totalt of 22 years in the league scored 1332 goals, 1580 assists in 1746 games.

Neither of their jerseys were retired :(

Do you get a message or anything telling you that a jersey has been retired?

Stars retired Modanos number
His is the 4th # to be raised to the roof.

If you let them go past July 1 in a contract issue, and then resign them..whether they were UFA or RFA...they will NOT be eligible for jersey retirment even if they break every NHL record ever. They are considerd to have LEFT the team, even if they resign with you July 2.

This happend with MAttias Ohlund with me. I let him go once and resigned him,....so nothing for his uni, even though played 1500 games. They cannot even get a sniff of free agency, and likely have to play 1000 games and be at least SUPERB repurtation throughout their career

EDIT: When they leave as UFA or RFA...they lose their jersey number and you have to reassign it. That causes the problem I bet. Anytime you have to reassign the number to the player you get in trouble.

So even guys you do not let get to Free Agency of any kind will sometimes get messed up...because you bring in a new guy with the same number from junior or another pro team...and boom the number reassigning messes things up.

Example: Signed Bogosion who came in as #2. When I went to change his number it changed Mattias Ohlunds to blank for 1 minute, even though I clicked Bogosian. So maybe, even if I had not let Ohlund go ...he would not have had his number retired.

I've never had a players number retired. Ever.

I just make it official in my mind, lol.

Naslund, Kovalchuk when I acquired him several years later, etc etc.

I've never had a problem, most of the guys now like Modano, Sakic, end up retiring the team they start the game with.

before you start your game you can choose what year (must be exact date) that your player retires and you can also choose it to retire his number, but that is all with the pre-game editor. (that is why Mike Modanos and others numbers are retired)

If you have already started your game and you want a player to retire, i'd change his age and his Current ability, and Rep; it seemed to work for me.

The Jersey retirement is messed up and it only retires their number if your player retires while still on your team (so he must be under contract when he retires)

---here's what i do:
Change his ability and rep to a very low number, then sign him to a long term contract.
Once he signs it, then if he doesn't choose to retire i change his age and make him really old (i do this all after we are out of the playoffs) and most of the time it says "retiring after the season" or something like that.
Then i go back and change everything to how it was. Once he retires if his numbers with your team are good his number will be retired. Sometimes he retires without notice but this should still work; however in that case you won't be able to change his rep and potential but should be able to change his age back.

Yeah. This is kind of annoying. When you bring up a kid they sometimes got another number automaticly, and when you click his number to scratch it, you ALWAYS scratch the First Team Guy with the same number first. I don't think there's a way around this.
