I know that here's already a thread about this, but I can't edit my original post.
The poll in the other thread ended in a three-way draw between F1 1999, F1 2009, V8 Supercars.
Now it's time to decide which one we will do.
Series info for V8:
[spoil]This series is a model of the V8 Supercars 2006 Season.
Car Setup - Practice and Warmup
V8 Supercars produces reduced feedback relative to other rounds to reduce the number of players with 100% setup and make setup more important for initial qualifying and an early race, so do not be surprised to find your setup seems quite poor compared to other BATracer games you may have played.
Fortunatly, you get quite a few laps to work on your setup - and this will be particulary felt at the multi-round venues, although changes in the weather may upset many teams.
The penalty of a bad setup is perhaps less than in other BATracer series because of the reduced number of setup parameters.
Event Format
Races follow a traditional practice / qualifying / warmup / race for the first race at an event. Thereafter special rules apply as there is only one qualifying session per event.
Qualifying
Drivers get up to four runs, and are able to make them anywhere within a virtual 60 minute session.
Adelaide
The first race in the season is a 500km event split across two races. The qualifying order for the 2nd race is based on the finishing order from the 1st. This is the only event where 2 compulsary pitstops are necessary.
Triple Header Races
The bulk of the season is made up from triple header races (3 races per venue). After the first race, the 2nd is a unique reversed grid race. Cars that failed to finish the first race however are still placed at the back. Starting order for the 3rd race is based on the average finishing position from races one and race two. One compulsary pitstop is made in all three races.
Endurance Events
Sandown and Bathurst are endurance events of just one (long race). The races are particulary tough, requiring multiple pit stops and your initial focus should be on simply finishing the race.
Points
V8 Supercars is the first BATracer series to feature a variable points system. No points are awarded for cars that fail to finish the race. For drivers that do finish, the following point structure applies (points listed starting from the winner and working downwards).
Adelaide Races 1 and 2
These have slightly more points than a regular weekend, as the event is divided into 2 250km races.
160 155 150 145 140 135 130 125 120 115 110 105 100 95 90 85 80 75 70 65 60 55 50 45 40 35 30 25 20 15 10 5
Endurance Races - Sandown and Bathurst
These attract maximum points because of their significance.
320 310 300 290 280 270 260 250 240 230 220 210 200 190 180 170 160 150 140 130 120 110 100 90 80 70 60 50 40 30 20 10
Reverse Grid Races
These are always the 2nd race at all regular rounds (i.e. excluding Adelaide, Sandown and Bathurst).
64 62 60 58 56 54 52 50 48 46 44 42 40 38 36 34 32 30 28 26 24 22 20 18 16 14 12 10 8 6 4 2
Regular Points
These are the standard points handed out for all other races and make up your core source of points.
128 124 120 116 112 108 104 100 96 92 88 84 80 76 72 68 64 60 56 52 48 44 40 36 32 28 24 20 16 12 8 4
The great thing about V8 Supercars is that battles further down the field are just as important as battles higher up the field.
Pitstops
All races feature at least one mandatory pitstop. Adelaide requires two.
The remaining endurance races - Sandown and Bathurst - require several pitstops for fuel to complete the 1000km.
Refuelling
Refuelling is only permitted at Adelaide, Sandown and Bathurst. At all other events the cars will be fuelled to the finish.
Reverse Grid Racing
This is always at the 2nd race at the core 3-race events. Only cars that completed race one will have their finishing positions reversed to form the grid, retirees will still start from the back. These races are particulary vicious and slower traffic plays a part. Fortunatly, the low points haul makes these races more of a fun event than a championship decider.
Race 3 - Grid Order
At any event where there are 3 races, the starting grid for the 3rd race is determined by the average finishing position from races 1 and 2. The podium results page will always show the grid order and also the computed average position.
Tyres
The tyres is V8 Supercars are reasonably durable, a sort of medium compound relative to the other BATracer carsets. The key thing about this series is that it is the first to feature variable tyre sets per race. Depending upon the venue you may see between 3 and 5 tyre sets.[/spoil]
I'll vote for F1 2009, as that is the best series on Batracer that we got people enough to compete in.
Please also leave a comment after that you voted so I can see who's interested in joining the series.
