UFA Favorite Team Trick

Post by Valkoon »

Hey guys, I stumbled upon something interesting last night. One of my favorite things is to have players list my team as one of their favorite teams. This make is more likely that they will re-sign with the team and for less money as well as keeps them happy playing for the team. I noticed last night that when I went to sign a UFA Cory Sarich to a good contract (probably a million more than he was worth) that my team became his favorite team. The trick part is that you don't have to actually sign the player. When the player agrees to sign cancel the offer and then offer him a lower contract. He will probably accept the lower contract since your team is one of his favorites. I have noticed it works better with players who are asking too much or for a NTC during free agency, basically players that other teams have no initial interest in. Obviously this doesn't work every time, or if a player already has 3 favorite teams, but it's a cool trick to get the player to like your team and save some money.

For those confused here is an example. A UFA you want does not have any contract offers (no wanted by his name). You offer the player a nice contract, a few million more than he is asking for. The player accepts the contract and your team becomes his favorite. You cancel the offer and re-offer him a lower contract then he is asking for. He should accept the offer since your team is now one of his favorites.

I would consider that cheating against the AI... :nerd:

Interesting find though. I had no idea offering a good contract would affect their opinion like that.

What's more surprising is that they still keep you as their fav team even if you withdraw the offer :D :-p

But I agree, that's pretty much cheating, and the AI isn't great as far as trading and signing is concerned in the first place anyway.

Yea it's pretty much a cheat. I have a problem where I must find all exploits in games. I must have missed my calling in life lol.

If you're going to do that, you might as well just use the editor. :dunno:

You can only use the pre-game editor to edit favorite teams not the saved game editor (unless I'm missing something).

I don't know. I can't say that I've really played with the saved game editor that much.

I know it's an old post but I was looking UFA and found this post.

I think when a team is not able to resign a player during the season, it shouldn't be allowed to sign the player as UFA.

Why? It's not realistic at all!
Ex: A player is making 6000000 , he doesn't want to sign at 7000000 and then goes UFA and you can sign him back at 2500000!

It's kind of a cheat.

Yes, it definitely is a cheat. It's up to you to use it or not. You risk to lose him.

Refusing to sign as RFA and then sign as UFA with the same team is realistic. Remeber what happened to Chicago when they forgot to give qualifying offers to some players? They agreed as UFA back then - unlike in EHM - for bigger money.

i don't think tricks are for sissies.... they just help create that game world you want. I've drafted a guy 1st overall with the Leafs who is from Toronto and i wanted us to be his favourite team and just didn't happen even though he was pretty loyal and was with my team almost his whole career and would proabably take a discount in real life. In my head we were his favourite :P
