Team Decisions

Post by Harper »

I am a month into the 2008-2009 season and this is my line up

I am considering trading Forsberg away for a draft pick or defensive center to open up almost 6 million in salary. And to fill his role, I would sign Jason Spezza...

Right now, my team is
Forwards
Simon Gagne-Peter Forsberg-Jeff Carter
Hugh Jessiman(trade)-Mike Richards-Bobby Ryan(offersheet)
Nordgren(trade for rights)-Bobby Holik(UFA)-Scott Hartnell(trade for rights)
Prucha(offersheet)-Aleksandrov(trade)-Bartovic(UFA)

Extras: Steve Downie, Nigel Dawes, Chris Moran, Kevin Romy

Defense
Johnsson-Pitkanen
Vaananen(trade/UFA resign)-Witt(UFA)
Kuba(UFA)-Lachance(UFA)

Extras: Erik Moe, Jeff Woywitka, Matt Walkers

Goalies
Niittymaki-Lehtonen(Offersheet)-Wiikman(draft)

If I followed through with this plan it would be

Forwards
Simon Gagne-Mike Richards-Jeff Carter
Hugh Jessiman(trade)-Jason Spezza(UFA)-Bobby Ryan(offersheet)
Nordgren(trade for rights)-Bobby Holik(UFA)-Scott Hartnell(trade for rights)
Prucha(offersheet)-Aleksandrov(trade)-Bartovic(UFA)

Extras: Steve Downie, Nigel Dawes, Chris Moran, Kevin Romy

Defense
Johnsson-Pitkanen
Vaananen(trade/UFA resign)-Witt(UFA)
Kuba(UFA)-Lachance(UFA)

Extras: Erik Moe, Jeff Woywitka, Matt Walkers

Goalies
Niittymaki-Lehtonen(Offersheet)-Wiikman(draft)

Spezza is only commanding $2.4 million since no one has signed him...should I do this, or keep Peter the great and let Spezza go elsewhere?

In trading Forsberg, what area of the team should I bolster?

Maybe you should get an another offensive d-man?

Oh, and sign Spezza. :)

I'd go for Spezza. He's much younger than Forsberg. Also, unlike Forsberg, Spezza isn't made of glass!

What's Jessiman like?

Jessiman has turned out quite well...I have him on the second line wing.

33 goals and 30 assists in 77 games in his first full season with me

This season he hasn't been as good, but my team always starts out slow.

Forsberg hasn't been glass in my game, surprising. The only injury he had was a 5 month UCL tear...ok that isn't good, but he suffered it in the All-Star game...What the Dickens

I went through it...I traded Forsberg to Boston (one of the only teams with enough cap room) for Josef Melichar, Jonathon Filewich, Ben Walter, and 3 4th round picks (09, 10, 11). I signed Spezza for one-year, $2.5 million with a player/team option. It was the only thing he would sign.

It was for the greater good of my team...I can now resign Gagne, Spezza, Pitkanen, Niittymaki, and a larger core of my players...plus I can add players at the deadline
