EHM - Wishlist!

Post by ponsjo95 »

Whats your wishlist for an upcoming EHM game, if they will do another one? I hope they will, but i don't think they will! :(

My wishlist:

1. Speak with other coaches about players, get relations that will be important for your progress in the game.

2. Talk with the players and see how they are doing!

3. Deeper draft!

4. Media Interviews!

5. U18 nationalteams and even U16.

GIVE ME YOUR WISHLIST! :joy:

Oh goody, I love these kinds of threads :)

I still have a huge pile of printouts somewhere in my archives from the old freeware EHM forums when we had some suggestion threads in there. Would be nice to go through them one day and see what we managed to implement in the games.

Czech language! :-)
- 2D view as in FM
- talking to players, managers, media
- portraits of faces generated by the players as in FM
- better trade
- better player profile
- a total of more sophisticated game, let him take the example of the Football Manager!

As much customisation as possible at least as much as the football manager games now have. People can then create/edit leagues in size and rules and create new competitions. The community can then take more of strain in this area and the developers can concentrate in area's such as the match engine, training, tactics, player/coach/media interaction etc.

This.

This is what hamstrung the freeware version, and what is still hamstringing 2007.

Stop with the hardcoded start dates, alignments, and team numbers. Allow more flexibility.

After giving my wishlist some thought, I realized that it can be simplified into one small equation:

Football Manager gameplay + Out of the Park Baseball customization + Hockey

I couldn't agree more. Customisation is the one thing I would absolutely love to see in a future EHM or EHM-type game.

Sums it up perfectly really. Although I must say that I can find FM somewhat overwhelming sometimes. There's always a danger that things go too deep and there's too much to micro manage. Having said that, I think SI has managed to address this in recent iterations of FM by allowing you to assign certain tasks to your Assistant (such as attending press conferences and giving team talks - two things I've never really been that interested in personally).

Riz - you should check out the Dabo Hockey Manager Forums. There are a heck of a lot of wish lists and suggestions in there - most of them are categorised into different threads too.

Yeah, I've had a look in there occasionally and will continue to do so :)

The customization thing was actually the very next thing on our list and had we been able to do another version of EHM, it would have most definitely had customizable leagues etc. Having a custom start date however is something you probably wouldn't get in a (commercial) product like that, if it was going to be a yearly release like the FM series for example.

Who said anything about a commercial product? ;-)

EDIT: I'd like to add that even on speedy machines, 2007 runs too slow for my liking. One of the charms of the original freeware was the way you could blow through seasons if you wanted to. Obviously 2007 has a much larger player DB than the freeware's what, 3500 max... but... maybe there's still something that can be done to allow the player the option to strip things down even further, like plain disabling the international competitions except the Olympics, WJC, and WC's or something.

I think I see what you're saying.

But to be honest, I think the start date would be the key to customization. Without it, the doors are closed to all possibility for historical leagues, real or fictional, which I would say make-up about 75% of the Out of the Park Baseball community. With a yearly release already providing updated rosters, I don't think the community would put much focus into undermining that - I think most interest would be for historical leagues.

That's a good point, Riz. That had never really occurred to me before. ](*,) Of course adding a customisable start date would never be viable in a commercial product as it'd potentially damage future sales. As much as we'd all like it as it'd cater for any further hiatus in development, it's just not something you could add. I guess there'd also be implications for licensing.

I see what Brian is saying however. I suppose EHM is a bit of a niche with probably a lot of the fan base being hardcore fans who are going to buy it every year regardless. Still, I suppose if EHM struggled with sales then anybody who developed it in the future wouldn't wish to do anything to potentially limit future sales.

Still, the start date isn't the be all and end all - we've managed to get around it for the past few years.

Something else I'd like to see is being able to export stats to something like CSV, XLS or Open Office Format. I don't mean just the basic stats, but the entire range of player and team stats. I'm trying to improve the rosters by comparing in game stats with real life stats but I'm having to export the stats manually by taking screenshots of every page of stats and running them through OCR software (only £10 from ABBYY btw). It's taking ages!

Well, considering the option to do historical leagues... allowing a custom start date going backwards from the current year would definitely be possible even in a commercial product.

Perhaps looking at the online part of the game formalise it a bit more to be suitable for online leagues. The online game could have privalages like say a mod on these forums so the host could appoint themselves commisioner or someone else and have deputys. Make it easier for various people to host so in theory the server could stay up all the time. Say you have admin privalges you can go in and save the game from in game to their own computer and that will store it on your computer without needing the inititial host to send you the saved file. Perhaps trade's in game could be put to the commisioner before approval (this option could be turned on or off). Also allow the commisioner as a seperate role from a team manager so leagues could if they wanted have a neutral commisioner. Drafting could be made more suitable for online play so say you could do 1 round at a time and be able to save the game to suit. Perhaps give commisioner powers such as ability to penalise offenders in the league such as suspensions, points deductions. Ability to be an assistant GM say for an online league where a couple of guys share responsibility for a team, limitations could be set on what the assistant could do e.g. not sign or release players but could alter stuff like tactics, training and scouting. A clock could be set by admin as to how long till the next sim so no relying on one player out of say 30 to click next etc All these options could be optional based on what commisioner sets.

How about simple things like fixing statistics. Players that play for the WJC never have their stats go into their international stat count, despite the fact that they should.

I'll check this out but if you mean the international career totals alone, that only tracks adult games iirc. The international junior games should still be recorded in the career history section though with all the other yearly career stats.
