Started a new game as the New Jersey Devils. First season went quite well. Won the President's Trophy with a 58-17-7 record.

Defeated Montreal in the first round, and Tampa Bay in the second round, before I got swept by eventual Stanley Cup champion Buffalo in the conference finals. Also lucked out a bit, as during the playoffs the Flyers waived Mike Richards, and no one else claimed him.

So with Richards now, my current lineup is:

Patrick Elias-Mike Richards-Travis Zajac
Ilya Kovalchuk-Zach Parise-Dainius Zubrus
Dave Steckel-Adam Mair-Vladimir Zharkov
Aleksandr Vasyunov-Tim Sestito-David Clarkson

Henrik Tallinder-Anton Volchenkov
Colin White-Anssi Salmela
Bryce Salvador-Rob Davison

Martin Brodeur
Johan Hedberg (injured for last 3 months of season)

I'm not sure what's worse... AI that makes that evaluation, or seeing Richards in New Jersey.

The Flyers AI in this game is acting weird. They also waived Pronger, who was picked up by the Blues

The AI in my game doesn't waive anyone that's really any good (lots of fringe and role players). The best waiver acquisition for me so far was Mike Grier who won the Selke that season. This season, I claimed Mark Bell off waivers and he's played pretty good on my 3rd/4th lines.

Due to cap issues (I was several million over at the start of the season), I traded both Pronger and Stuart and got 3 d-men (Jurcina, Sarich, Allen) and picks in return. I'm so glad I got rid of Pronger - his speed has dropped all the way down to 6 this season!

If you got the patience ;) I think you should start simple and play the NHL team, if you feel like you wanna play Providence just Add a GM later in the game... Just make sure you got AHL selected as playable league when you start the game. Doesn't matter standard or enhanced, you can change that later too, I'd go with standard if I don't play in the league.

My advice will be to play one full season with the Bruins, then in the summer, take over Providence and completely change the staff ( if the coaches suck of course ) then when the NHL season is about to start take your retirement. I often do that so my prospects can develop in a better way in the AHL.

Yes. You can autosim Providence's GM and take control when needed. E.g. in case you need them to dress your players or young goalies etc.

I'm obsessed with playing games where I start with a really awkwardly depleted roster (via editor) and see how I can do, usually means a bad couple seasons but for some reason I enjoy it. I also hate stuff I find super un-realistic (like a team waiving a top line centre) and it sometimes causes me to restart games out of anger, lol. Using the newest updadted unfaking database with some alterations from myself.

That said, just started a new game as a depleted Toronto Maple Leafs.

My beginning roster is:

Jean-Francois Racine
Andrew Raycroft
James Reimer *rights*
Garnet Exelby
Tomas Kaberle
Phil Oreskovic *rights*
Ian White
Korbinian Holzer *rights*
Anton Stralman *rights*
Ryan Hamilton
Tyson Nash
Viktor Stalberg *rights*
Nikolai Kulemin *rights*
Jiri Tlusty *rights*
Boyd Deveraux
John Mitchell
Matt Stajan
Colin Stuart
Mats Sundin
Nathan Horton
Jamal Mayers
Lee Stempniak
Ben Ondrus

First couple moves I've made thus far:
-Traded Lee Stempniak to Anaheim for Chris Kunitz
-Traded 2007 7th Round Pick to Anaheim for Rob Niedermayer (Anaheim is having cap issues)
-Signed prospects: Reimer, Oreskovic, Stalberg, Tlusty, Stralman (to transfer), Kulemin (to transfer)
-Signed free agents: Mats Sundin, Darryl Boyce, Rich Peverley, Sean Burke (released by Tampa)

Now I intend to only allow myself a handful of trades (maybe 5, havnt decided) so I'll have to really raid the waiver wire to fill out my roster as well as see what free agents are available. I Don't intend on many of my young guys playing on the main roster this year with likely most of them being sent back to the juniors or Marlies.

However, the one part of the EHM I've never been able to master (due to lack of understanding) is tactics for lines. So maybe once I have a final roster stamped out I'll repost and hopefully get some hints from more seasoned players.

I have hard time playing as the Bruins, because i don't want to see any players go away... Any thoughts which team would be interesting to play with? I'd like to start with a rebuilding team with good prospects and have some kind of rules about trading and picking up free agents etc... Thoughts?

If you want a challenge, you could try the Wightlink Raiders ;) . I think it was determined a little while ago that they're the worst team in the game.

Then it's maybe too challenging for newbie like me :chuckle:
I think i'm gonna go with Islanders, try to build a successful team around Mr. Tavares by tanking up.
I'm gonna use TBL challenge rules except if i'm fired i'm gonna add myself back as the Isles GM. :crown:
I'll do a blog about this "project" but not anything fancy. :-)

I'm playing with Hurricanes in edited orig.db and I'm doing pretty well: after 35 games I was 3rd in Conference. I've played offensive game and 5 of my players have scored over 30 points, 8 players have over 20 points and 12 players over 10. Ward has been ok in goal. My rookie d-man Jamie McBain has been superb: earlier he scored point/game, but now after 35 games he has 23 points (3rd most in NHL by d-men). His +/- is +7 and he has got 32 penalty minutes. His av. rating is 7.57. He has scored 3rd most points by rookie skaters and he has 2nd most assists and 2nd best +/-. His av. rating is best by rookies. It seems to be that he is real future Norris Trophy candidate. :-p

Just finished my second season as GM of the GR Griffins (AHL) and the Detroit Red Wings (NHL). My Griffins had the best record in the league with 139 points, then promptly lost in the first round to Syracuse. This came after losing in the second round to Worchester the year before. I replaced my head coach before this year, but it didn't help me in the playoffs at all, hopefully things will work out next year.

My Red Wings won the President's Trophy with 143 points and are currently starting the Western Conference Finals against San Jose. Last season we lost in the Conference Finals to Vancouver, hoping this time around the results are more in my favor. ;)

Well, I managed to get past San Jose and into the Stanley Cup Finals, where I defeated the Boston Bruins in 6 games to claim my first Stanley Cup and 12th in team history! Now, if I could just get the Griffins to score in the playoffs........ :dunno:

Well, playing Anaheim ducks.. playing the 2010/11 lidas rosters.. i'm in year 2012/2013.. i've won the stanley cup 6 years in a row, it's like... given that the ducks are going to take home the cup each year.. lol

Team right now;
Jonathan Bernier 2nd goalie
Seymon Varlamov 1st

Offense;

Parise - Carter - Perry
B.Ryan - Getzlaf - C.Campbell (a 20 year old, and more talented Kyle Okposo)
Sutherby - Jancovic(a 21 year old spezza regen) - Cheechoo
Y.Statsny - Bolland - Harju

D-men;

Weber - Edler
Fowler - M.Niskanen
Morin - Babchuk

And i've a "more talented Getzlaf" coming up, and a more talented version of Travis Zajac.. going to let them play for their junior team 1 more year, then 1 year in the ahl.. then bring them up :) Currently im actually trying to get rid of Getzlaf (dont hate me) for a Zetterberg regen, but it seems to be impossible.. that 20 year old Zetterberg is crazyyyyyy.. well well :)
