Updating the history in Manimal v4.1 - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Post by archibalduk »

As you may have seen from my ramblings in my blog (LINK), I've been developing a competition and player/staff career history editor. The editor can be used by lots of users at the same time and then joined together and imported into the Manimal database. As soon as the 2011/12 Manimal Rosters v4.0 is released, I will be able to make the editor available so that we can start researching the histories (we can't start using the editor until the rosters are released because I have to export some of the data from the rosters to the editor).

Although we can't yet get underway with the editor, it is possible to do some preliminary work. If anybody is interested in helping, it is possible to put all of the player career stats into a spreadsheet and then this can be copied and pasted into the editor once it is available. So if you would like to help with the project by entering stats into the editor, you could get started now by compiling the stats into a spreadsheet. Then, once the editor is available, you can go through each player in the editor and paste in the stats. Note that although you can paste the stats into the editor, you still have to manually set the team/competition/year/playoff fields. It is just literally the stats themselves (goals, assists, PIM, etc) that can be pasted.

If you would like to help out then please post in here to say which teams you would like to research (please post these details just before you start researching the teams so as to avoid any users researching the same teams). Ideally, I would like to concentrate solely on the playable leagues to start with. Please note that you should research stats for every player contracted to the team. We are looking for career stats from 2006/07 until 2010/11 (inclusive).

EDIT: The most up to date list of teams and leagues taken can be found on the most recent page of this thread (it gets quoted and updated regularly in new posts)

If you start to put the stats into Excel then it'll give you a head start once the editor has been released. Below is an example of how you could get started with the research. You'll notice that I added Pts for skaters - I only did this because it is included on websites such as hockeydb.com etc. In order to copy and paste the data into the editor, I would first need to delete the Pts column. I just included it here because it's quick and easy to copy and paste the whole lot from the internet and we can then later delete the column once it is done.

Image

P.s. To start with, the editor will only be available for the Manimal Rosters v4.0. I'm using this project a bit like a beta test of the editor. Assuming it all works okay (and I'm fairly confident that it will), I will in the future release the full editor and accompanying programme so that users can edit any other rosters they want.

P.p.s. I apologise if this post doesn't make much sense (let me know if it doesn't and I will explain more) - I've had a busy day! :D

I'll get us started (there is a reason I am starting with these teams):
Research list wrote:NHL
Anaheim - Archi
Winnipeg - Archi
In addition, I will do all of the competition histories (because I can get started on these now using the editor).

Please quote the above list in your post if you would like to claim any teams/leagues. :)

If we pick an NHL team should we also get info for their "affiliate" team?

You should take info for all with contract to the Islanders, not just the ones on their NHL-squad.
If you have the time you can add the Sound Tigers AHL-signed players as well. Just note it in the list of teams

NHL
Toronto Maple Leafs - AaronRStanley

And depending on how that goes, I'd be willing to assist further.

I personally think we give these a miss at the moment. Let's just concentrate on getting the playable league competitions done. Once we achieved that, we can look at international histories and also the free agents. :)

What a great response so far! Fingers crossed we can achieve our goal together. Lazion is very kindly providing me with all of the league and international competition histories he did for the UUDB which is going to save me a heap of research. =D> I'll just need to work on converting them over. Once I've done the competition histories, Anaheim and Winnipeg, I'll put myself down for some more teams.

As Manimal said, we're looking to do all players contracted to the team rather than just those on their active roster.

I guess you can simply copy-paste the relative part from hex editor into the relative files of Manimal DB.
By the way, if someone is willing to help the UUDB as well, please let us know

I can do the Detroit Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins. Also if needed I will do the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL.

p.s. I have already started researching the Red Wings and should we include player stats from World Juniors, Olympics, etc.?

I've got the current Colorado roster complete, but not having much luck finding win-loss records, saves and save percentages for Varlamov in his early Russian days. Anybody know of any, maybe, Russian sites that would carry them? I've looked on hockeydb.com, eliteprospects.com and tsn.ca. I'm not too familiar with European hockey sites, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You should create your own, as the editor is not ready to disperse yet. This is to get everything set so it will be a relatively easy transition from spreadsheet to editor.

I've got Colorado and Lake Erie completed (with some minor goalie details missing), so I think I'll try my hand with Buffalo and Rochester next.
