After pre-ordering the game late March, I've not really had much time messing around with the beta to be honest. I've downloaded the logo and player faces though and started a new game with Manchester Phoenix. Decided to shy away from the NHL for now and do a bit of beta testing in the UK league and see what bugs/player errors I come across (seen as this is the leagues I'll spend most of my time in come full release).

I must admit, I do like the feel of the layout, having played precious OOTP games though I was used to the way they do things. Anyway, onto about 2/3 hours or gameplay sorting everything out before I even touch the continue button :-o

Wow, there's a blast from the past! Welcome back, Mark! :-)

Please feel free to post in our UK Leagues Feedback Thread if you come across any issues, etc. Some things to note are:
  • Injuries seem to be very high in game and can sometimes skew things (especially teams with smaller rosters). When testing, I've been disabling injuries via the Game Settings screen.
  • Scoring and penalties are way too low in game right now. I'm waiting for OOTP to re-enable these settings. I expect this will have quite an effect in game (Guildford seem to struggle in game a little, but I'm wondering if that'll change once the scoring has been increased).
  • All of the players on teams have their Technical Abilities rated (this is the equivalent to the EHM CA ratings - but there are 5 of them in FHM) but not many individual attributes have been (this is a game-wide thing - we're awaiting guidelines/instructions for them). However, I hope to finish adding the Ageing attribute this weekend. Attributes such as Aggression, Temperament, Fighting and Faceoffs have been set for all three leagues (except Faceoffs, which I still need to finish off for the NIHL-1).
  • I've been too generous with the TA ratings for many of the Scottish EIHL teams. I need to downgrade their depth players a little (the Scottish teams are a bit too strong right now).

Aye mate it is indeed :),

After I stopped playing EHM due to commitments elsewhere I didn't come on forums all that much, but when I heard OOTP was making a new hockey game I was eagerly awaiting the release, so when the game was finally released and I purchased it, I thought I'd look on here to see if this place was still actually going and I also knew if it was, this would be the best place to come to discuss the game and get logos etc.

I'm going to spend a good few hours on it this afternoon though as I've got no plans today (winding down from a stressful day at football yesterday :P), my main aim though is to play around, get a feel for the interface and also look around the UK leagues in-depth, if I do come across any issues though, I'll be sure to let you know.

It certainly feels good to be back,

Currently enjoying a season as the Winnipeg Jets.

The first thing I did was sign Zach Bogosian, Bryan Little, Blake Wheeler and Alex Burmistrov to extensions, then made the following moves to boost my fourth line as I'm happy with the rest of my roster:

Free agents signed - Dominic Moore (0G, 1A from 14 games)

Trades made - Mike Santorelli for Dan Carcillo (1G, 1A from 14 games) and a draft pick.

Have a record of 9-5-0, sitting second in the Southeast. Bryan Little is my top scorer with 8 goals, and he, Antropov and Wheeler are top of the points chart with 11 each. Would be disappointed not to reach the playoffs, and I have a good young core so I reckon a Cup is realistic in 2/3 seasons.

So I've played 2 seasons, half way trough 3rd with the blue jackets, started off with trading me a top5 entry draft pick(since i will most likely be in the bottom 10 the 1st season) I wanted to get some youth potential for the next year.. Drafted Elias Lindholm, Hunter Shinkaruk and Ryan Pulock, Elias Lindholm got the chance in the first line right away, Shinkaruk played in 3rd for the first year..

Elias Lindholm finished the 1st season with 76p 37 goals 39 assists.

Got Karl Alzner, Jonas Enroth and Kyle Clifford as free agents during the summer.

Second season I finished as 2nd in my conference and 5th overall, but got knocked off in the 2nd round in the playoffs by Edmonton Oilers.
During the trade in the winter I traded Brandon Dubinsky and 1st or 2th round for Evgeni Malkin(scored the most goal that season) And got into a bid war for Dustin Brown during the summer, got him at 8year deal 5,8m each year.

Traded Artem Anisimov and a 1st round pick for Sam Reinhart who is doing just fine this season.. Right now, half way through the 3rd season Im the conference leader and top3 overall in points..

Anyway, what I wanted to really discuss is the weird thing in Malkin! He starts off with like 4½ stars or something the first season? Drops off to 3½ or 4 stars the second season and now, with my Blue Jackets he has 3 stars in ability?! What the hell, he's one of the best players in the league..

I was wondering how you got him so easily. Seems a little unrealistic to me.

Beacuse he dropped off quite abit in potential, I thought it would be almost impossible to get him but didn't give alot for him.. As I said Dubinsky and a 1st or 2nd round pick, most likely a 1st round..

Isn't 7 years max for free agents from other teams?

I'm currently using the Dallas Stars. I'm finding the trade logic a little iffy. Pittsburgh traded Malkin to Toronto for a guy I've never heard of.

Not the first time Malkin is mentioned in weird trades. Maybe it's the player itself that isn't rated properly. :-k

I'm into my second year with the Red Wings and I'm enjoying it so far.
I'm liking all the options we have and really like the idea of being able to add teams and change leagues' structures within a saved game. (that it's going to be added, along with the expansion wizard right?) I'll have fun trying to turn the KHL into a super european league if I can.

In my first year we won 59 games, but ended up 2nd place in the Central division behind the Blackhawks and made it to the conference finals, where we got eliminated in 5 games against the Ducks, the Rangers ended up winning the cup though.

Crosby was able to stay healthy all year and lead the league in both points(125) and assists(76). Datsyuk put up the most goals(55) along with his first 100 points season, netting 110 points.
I traded Filppula to the Blues for Tarasenko, since I had no need for him after I picked up Lecavalier who was still a free agent. :** Ended out working pretty good for me in the end, Tarasenko put up 53 goals(!!) and 103 points(!!!) in 78 games and Lecavalier had 69 points in 82 games, while Filppula put up only 42 points in 79 games for the Blues.
That's all I can remember for the first year, once the game comes out in full I'll start copying stats to excel sheets, just because I'm crazy and I have fun doing stuff like that.

So far this year we've managed to go 30-7-1-1 best team in the league by 7 points. Crosby is leading the players in both points and assists again, so far he has 27 goals and 40 assists through 35 games.

I brought my copy yesterday and started up a league. Looks nice for a beta, I'm not amazed yet but it's looking good :). I'm still getting used to the interface which is a bit less straightforward then the ones sigames and Reeves built. For example, searching players can only be done by name? I would like to find some good defenders for instance. Any possibility to search or filter by attributes or skills? :dunno:

I'm not a fan of the interface style at all, but looking at OOTP it seems I'm going to have to accept the "company style" in terms of interface (of course FHM's a beta so I'm sure the interface will improve)

I haven't done much play testing at all, so I'm not sure...but "maybe not yet" as I have seen posts on the FHM/OOTP site expressing the need for improvement in terms of search/filter functionality

Well, the last release of a hockey management game also dates from 5 years ago ;). There will be more if I enjoy the new game, spooky :D

I'm really excited about this new game but it's too bad they couldn't add the same level of player search functionality as EHM had. A part from that, it seems that there are loads of stats and settings to tweak your roster :)

I've been playing a bit of OOTP Baseball 14 and the interface does take some getting used to if you're used to the SI Games style of interface. I do really like the OOTPB interface now that I'm used to it. The menus and screens are well laid out and there are some nice shortcut buttons for common tasks along the right edge of the screen. You can also customise what is shown on each screen which is really neat. However, I find FHM's interface a real pain to use. Although it does resemble OOTPB's interface, it's nowhere near as easy or as intuitive to use.

Hmmm I think we need an :Octavian: ghost smilie!! :D

I think ootp interface does the trick as well but once you start adding in 20 plus leagues like FHM has it becomes alittle tedious exploring the world. But it's still much easier in OOTP than in FHM.

I really miss the team player registry that ootp has...I really thought it would be in FHM and it's sorely missed.
