November 3rd

The IceDogs head out on the road, travelling to play the Plymouth Whalers! Brent Moran stopped 18 of the 22 shots he faced, and the Whalers scored dramatically in the final seconds to force overtime, however, IceDogs defenseman Ville Jarvinen would emerge as the hero, scoring the overtime winner midway through the extra frame!

The Finnish Four Nations Under-20 Tournament resumes play today, pitting the Czech Republic against Russia, Finland, and Sweden! The Czech Republic defeated Russia 2-0 in the opening game of the tournament on October 20th!

Sweden defeat Finland 3-2! First star honours would go to Swedish winger Oskar Lindblom, who recorded three assists! Second star would go to Swedish winger Henrik Tornqvist, who scored two goals, and an assist! Third star would go to Swedish goaltender Jesper Eriksson, who stopped 28 of 30 shots in the victory!

Former IceDogs defenseman Luke Mercer has already been locked up for another year by his current team, Biel-Bienne of the Swiss National League, who signed him to a 1 year contract extension that will pay him $92.5K next season!

The IceDogs remain on the road, travelling to play the Guelph Storm! The IceDogs return home to play host to the Kington Frontenacs! Brent Moran stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in the game, and though the Frontenacs led the game 2-1 going into the third period, the IceDogs would scored three unanswered third period goals in securing the victory!

2009 Memorial Cup

May 21st

The IceDogs are in Rimouski, to play the first game of the Memorial Cup Round Robin against the Cape Brenton Screaming Eagles! Brent Moran stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced in the game, and though the Eagles scored first, the IceDogs scored three unanswered goals to take the victory!

Third star would go to Niagara IceDogs winger Walter Stevens, who scored a goal!

Kootenay Ice vs. Rimouski Oceanic

Kootenay defeat Rimouski 5-0! First star honours would go to Kootenay Ice winger Kaiden Jones, who recorded two assists! Second star would go to Kootenay Ice defenseman Frederic Baert, who recorded two assists! Third star would go to Kootenay Ice goaltender Mattias Couturier, who posted a 17 save shutout!

May 22nd

Former IceDogs goaltender Chris Festarini has been released by the Colorado Avalanche, and is now a free agent!

May 23rd

The IceDogs are in Rimouski to play the second game of the Memorial Cup Round Robin against the Rimouski Oceanic! Brent Moran stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced, and the IceDogs, led by a hat trick from Alexcei Masch, scored seven goals to score the blowout victory!

May 25th

The IceDogs are in Rimouski to play the third game of the Memorial Cup Round Robin against the Kootenay Ice! Brent Moran stopped 15 of the 18 shots he faced, and though the score was tied 3-3 after two periods, four unanswered IceDogs goals in the third period gave them the victory!

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles vs. Rimouski Oceanic

Cape Breton defeat Rimouski 6-2! First star honours would go to Cape Breton Screaming Eagles winger Danick Gaudreau, who scored two goals, and an assist! SEcond star would go to Cape Breton Screaming Eagles center Stratton O'Brien, who recorded three assists! Third star would go to Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defenseman Will Thompson, who recorded two assists!

The Niagara IceDogs have won the Round Robin, and earn a bye to the Memorial Cup Final, the host Rimouski Oceanic finish in last, and are eliminated from the tournament, meanwhile the Kootenay Ice, and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will play in the Semi-Final!

The IceDogs are awarded $140K for finishing first in the Memorial Cup Round Robin!

May 28th

Former IceDogs goaltender Chris Festarini has signed a 2 year contract worth $475K per season with the Tampa Bay Lightning!

May 30th, Memorial Cup Semi-Final

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles vs. Kootenay Ice

Cape Breton defeat Kootenay 3-2 in overtime! First star honours would go to Kootenay Ice center Ryan Chynoweth, who scored a goal, and an assist! Second star would go to Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defenseman Gabriel D'Astous-Moreau, who scored two goals! Third star would go to Kootenay Ice center Zachery Zboroski, who scored a goal, and an assist!

June 2nd, Memorial Cup Final

The IceDogs remain in Rimouski to play in the Memorial Cup Final against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles! Brent Moran stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced, and though the Eagles scored to tie the game 2-2 midway through the second, four unanswered Niagara goals gave them the victory!

June 3rd

The IceDogs begin cleaning up their roster in preparation for the coming off season by releasing their overage players:

The following other player has been released:

RW Matt Gillard

He is going into his overage year, and not part of our plans for the coming season.

This will likely also be Brendan Perlini's final year with the team, once his current loan expires on June 20th.

We have 4 overage players under contract going into the season:

G Brent Moran
D Stefan Leblanc
D Aaron Haydon
RW Kegan Blasby

One of these players will be released before the season starts. The decision will be made easier if Moran is signed by the Oilers.

June 5th

The IceDogs announced the completion of a trade with the North Bay Battalion, sending defenseman Tanner Broad to the Battalion in exchange for a 7th Round draft pick!

Tanner Broad spent most of last season playing with the St. Catharines Falcons (GOJHL), playing in 57 games, and putting up 63 (21+42) points, and was +38, with 82 penalty minutes! He also played in 3 games for the IceDogs, scoring two goals.

June 6th

The Canadian Hockey League released their All-Star Teams Today!

June 20th

Winger Brendan Perlini's loan to the IceDogs finishes, and he leaves the team. The IceDogs release Perlini's rights, he will begin his professional career this season.

The 2009 NHL Entry Draft was held today, and one IceDog was drafted:

LW Alexcei Masch: Toronto Maple Leafs, 2nd Round (50th Overall)

With the 1st Overall pick of the draft, the Florida Panthers selected Kitchener Rangers defenseman Jacob Chychrun, 2nd Overall the Phoenix Coyotes selected Medicine Hat Tigers winger Tyler Benson, and with the 3rd Overall pick the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Mississauga Steelheads defenseman Sean Day!

June 25th, CHL Import Draft

The IceDogs hold the 57th Overall Pick of the Draft!

With the first overall pick of the draft the Barrie Colts select Swedish winger Tom Jonsson!

1st Round (57th Overall): C Thomas Jakobsen

Last Season (With Aalborg Jrs, Danish Junior League): 37GP, 25G, 30A, 55P, +27, 42 PIM, 7.86 AvR

Jakobsen is under contract to Aalborg for this coming season, but could sign up the next season, when a spot will likely open up with Kylington, and Jarvinen both going into their overage years, and his contract with Aalborg expiring!

The IceDogs release goaltender Martin Deck!

2nd Round: Niagara decline to select.

June 29th

Winger Walter Stevens has been named Niagara IceDogs Fans Player of the Year! Stevens played in 66 games with the IceDogs this season, putting up 54 (24+30) points, and was +49, with 123 penalty minutes! In 22 playoff games, Stevens put up 18 (9+9) points, and was +16, with 34 penalty minutes! In 4 games at the Memorial Cup, Stevens put up 5 (1+4) points, and was +8, with 16 penalty minutes!

Niagara IceDogs ownership has paid out dividends totaling $4.4M to the shareholders!

June 30th

The IceDogs Board of Directors announce that they expect the team to once again be a serious J.Ross Robertson Cup contender!

The Spokane Chiefs will host the 2010 Memorial Cup!

Offseason 2009

July 1st

The OHL released their 2009/10 Season Schedule today, and the IceDogs will open the season on the road, travelling to play the Peterborough Petes on September 21st, then return home to play host to the Belleville Bulls on September 22nd, and travel again to play the Sudbury Wolves on September 24th!

The IceDogs announce their slate of preseason exhibitions, starting with a three game tour of the USA!

August 9th: at US NTDP

August 13th: at Plymouth Whalers

Then the fourth annual Niagara Cup tournament, from August 29-31!
