Early November 2008, Finnish Four Nations Under-20 Tournament



November 3rd

The IceDogs head out on the road, travelling to play the Plymouth Whalers! Brent Moran stopped 18 of the 22 shots he faced, and the Whalers scored dramatically in the final seconds to force overtime, however, IceDogs defenseman Ville Jarvinen would emerge as the hero, scoring the overtime winner midway through the extra frame!

The IceDogs remain on the road, travelling to play the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds! Backup goaltender Nicholas Malone will get the start in goal for Niagara! Nicholas Malone stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced in the game, and though the Greyhounds scored first, the IceDogs would score five unanswered goals to take the victory!

November 6th

The Finnish Four Nations Under-20 Tournament resumes play today, pitting the Czech Republic against Russia, Finland, and Sweden! The Czech Republic defeated Russia 2-0 in the opening game of the tournament on October 20th!



Sweden vs. Finland

Sweden defeat Finland 3-2! First star honours would go to Swedish winger Oskar Lindblom, who recorded three assists! Second star would go to Swedish winger Henrik Tornqvist, who scored two goals, and an assist! Third star would go to Swedish goaltender Jesper Eriksson, who stopped 28 of 30 shots in the victory!



Former IceDogs defenseman Luke Mercer has already been locked up for another year by his current team, Biel-Bienne of the Swiss National League, who signed him to a 1 year contract extension that will pay him $92.5K next season!



IceDogs goaltender Brent Moran, and winger Brendan Perlini have been named to the OHL All-Star Team for the game against the Russian Selects!



November 8th

The IceDogs remain on the road, travelling to play the Guelph Storm! Brent Moran stopped 20 of the 23 shots he faced, and though the IceDogs led 2-0 going into the third, the Storm scored twice in the third to force overtime, where Guelph center Cleon Leach emerged as the hero, scoring the overtime winner just seconds into the extra period!

Finland vs. Czech Republic

Czech Republic defeat Finland 4-3! First star honours would go to Czech defenseman Leos Pozivil, who scored two goals! Second star would go to Czech winger Kevin Fiala, who recorded an assist! Third star would go to Czech center Zdenek Hubacek, who recorded two assists!



Russia vs. Sweden

Russia defeat Sweden 4-0! First star honours would go to Russian goaltender Maxim Tretyak, who posted a 32 save shutout! Second star would go to Russian defenseman Gennady Shaveleyev, who recorded two assists! Third star would go to Russian center Yuri Nesterov, who scored a goal!



November 9th

The IceDogs return home to play host to the Kington Frontenacs! Brent Moran stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in the game, and though the Frontenacs led the game 2-1 going into the third period, the IceDogs would scored three unanswered third period goals in securing the victory!

Czech Republic and Sweden battle to a 2-2 draw! First star honours would go to Swedish winger Oskar Lindblom, who scored two goals! Second star would go to Swedish center Adrian Kempe, who recorded two assists! Third star would go to Czech winger Tomas Prorok, who scored two goals!

The IceDogs remain at home to play host to the Oshawa Generals! Backup goaltender Nicholas Malone will get the start in goal for Niagara! Nicholas Malone stopped all 18 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season, and the IceDogs offense scored four goals to secure the victory!

The IceDogs remain at home to play host to the Guelph Storm! Brent Moran stopped 24 of the 28 shots he faced in the game, and though the Storm scored midway through the second to tie the game 3-3, two straight Niagara goals gave them a lead they would not relinquish!

Second star would go to Charlottetown Islanders winger Alexis Pepin, who recorded four assists! Third star would go to Russian winger Demitry Yemelin, who scored a goal!



November 23rd

The IceDogs head out on the road, travelling to play the Sudbury Wolves! Brent Moran stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced, and the IceDogs offense exploded, scoring six goals in the first two periods, leaving the Wolves in a deep hole that they just couldn't dig themselves out of!

Second star would go to Kingston Frontenacs defenseman Roland McKeown, who recorded two assists! Third star would go to Oshawa Generals center Dylan Strome, who scored a goal!

Despite having a strained rotator cuff IceDogs winger Brendan Perlini played 24:49, recorded an assist, was Even, and had 6 shots on goal!



November 26th

The IceDogs return home to play host to the Barrie Colts! Brent Moran stopped 20 of the 22 shots he faced in the game, and the IceDogs scored four times in the first period, and continued to add on thereafter, not allowing the Colts to get into the game!

The WHL All-Stars defeat the Russian Selects 4-0! First star honours would go to Lethbridge Hurricanes goaltender Jonny Hogue, who posted a 27 save shutout! Second star would go to Medicine Hat Tigers winger Tyler Benson, who scored a goal, and an assist! Third star would go to Medicine Hat Tigers defenseman Simon-Yves MacIntosh, who scored a goal, and an assist!



Oshawa Generals center Dylan Strome is named OHL Player of the Week! In 2 games he scored 3 goals, and 6 assists!



December 2nd

The IceDogs remain at home to play host to the North Bay Battalion! Brent Moran stopped 34 of the 38 shots he faced in the game, and the Battalion scored four times in the first period, and though Niagara attempted to battle back, they couldn't get back into the game!

Nicholas Malone stopped 20 of the 22 shots he faced, and though the Attack scored early in the third period to go ahead 2-1, but the IceDogs scored twice in the final two minutes to take the victory!

The IceDogs sign goaltender Brent Moran to come back and play his overage year with the team! In 23 games this season, Moran has posted a 19-3-1 record, with a 2.42 GAA, and a .902 SV%!



December 18th

The IceDogs sign winger Kegan Blasby to return to play his overage year with the club! In 34 games this season, Blasby has put up 37 (19+18) points, and is +16, with 22 penalty minutes!

The IceDogs sign defenseman Aaron Haydon to return to play his overage year with the club! In 31 games this season, Haydon has put up 8 (2+6) points, and is +9, with 12 penalty minutes!



December 19th

The following IceDogs have left the team to participate in the Russian Four Nations Under-20 Tournament!

The IceDogs begin cleaning up their roster in preparation for the coming off season by releasing their overage players:

He is going into his overage year, and not part of our plans for the coming season.


This will likely also be Brendan Perlini's final year with the team, once his current loan expires on June 20th.

One of these players will be released before the season starts. The decision will be made easier if Moran is signed by the Oilers.



June 5th

The IceDogs announced the completion of a trade with the North Bay Battalion, sending defenseman Tanner Broad to the Battalion in exchange for a 7th Round draft pick!

Tanner Broad spent most of last season playing with the St. Catharines Falcons (GOJHL), playing in 57 games, and putting up 63 (21+42) points, and was +38, with 82 penalty minutes! He also played in 3 games for the IceDogs, scoring two goals.

With the 1st Overall pick of the draft, the Florida Panthers selected Kitchener Rangers defenseman Jacob Chychrun, 2nd Overall the Phoenix Coyotes selected Medicine Hat Tigers winger Tyler Benson, and with the 3rd Overall pick the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Mississauga Steelheads defenseman Sean Day!



June 25th, CHL Import Draft

The IceDogs hold the 57th Overall Pick of the Draft!

With the first overall pick of the draft the Barrie Colts select Swedish winger Tom Jonsson!

Winger Walter Stevens has been named Niagara IceDogs Fans Player of the Year! Stevens played in 66 games with the IceDogs this season, putting up 54 (24+30) points, and was +49, with 123 penalty minutes! In 22 playoff games, Stevens put up 18 (9+9) points, and was +16, with 34 penalty minutes! In 4 games at the Memorial Cup, Stevens put up 5 (1+4) points, and was +8, with 16 penalty minutes!



Niagara IceDogs ownership has paid out dividends totaling $4.4M to the shareholders!



June 30th

The IceDogs Board of Directors announce that they expect the team to once again be a serious J.Ross Robertson Cup contender!

The OHL released their 2009/10 Season Schedule today, and the IceDogs will open the season on the road, travelling to play the Peterborough Petes on September 21st, then return home to play host to the Belleville Bulls on September 22nd, and travel again to play the Sudbury Wolves on September 24th!

August 9th

The IceDogs begin their American tour with the stop in Ann Arbor, Michigan to play the US National Team Developement Program U-17 Team! Nicholas Malone will get the start in goal for Niagara! Nicholas Malone stopped 15 of the 19 shots he faced, and though the IceDogs led 4-2 going into the third period, the Americans scored twice in the third to end the game in a draw!

IceDogs training camp started today with physical fitness testing! Excellent physical fitness was shown by center Pete Murphy, and defenseman Stefan Leblanc, while tryout winger Roland Gosselin, and goaltender Nicholas Malone left something to be desired!

Team Red defeat Team Blue 3-1! Best performance was put in by defenseman Ville Jarvinen, with honours also going to tryout winger Roland Gosselin, and winger Eddie Mullen!

Team White defeat Team Green 4-0! No players stood out in the game!

IceDogs tryout winger Vincenzo Strachan will miss 3 weeks with a hip flexor strain!



The IceDogs return home to open up their preseason, playing host to the London Knights! Carter MacDougall will get the start in goal for Niagara! Carter MacDougall stopped 8 of the 12 shots he faced before being pulled in favor of Nicholas Malone, who stopped 10 of 12 shots the rest of the way, and though the IceDogs led 4-3 midway through the game, three straight London goals gave them the victory!

IceDogs defenseman Oliver Kylington has signed a 3 year contract worth $875K per season with the Columbus Blue Jackets! We are fairly hopeful he will be returned to us for the coming season.

Team Red defeat Team Green 2-1! Best performance was put in by defenseman Ville Jarvinen, with honours also going to winger Alexcei Masch, and defenseman Zach Wilkie!

The Hockey News released their OHL Season Preview today, and the Niagara IceDogs (Team MVP: LW Walter Stevens, Key New Face: RW Remi Therrien) were ranked 16th out of the 20 OHL Teams! Favorites to win the J.Ross Robertson Cup this year are the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, though the North Bay Battalion should give them a run for their money! The Plymouth Whalers and Saginaw Spirit should be solid contenders, while the Sarnia Sting and Sudbury Wolves are expected to struggle!



September 10th

Team White and Team Blue skate to a 3-3 tie! Best performance was put in by defenseman Stefan Leblanc, with honours also going to wingers Kegan Blasby, and Walter Stevens!

Team Green and Team Red skate to a 2-2 draw! Best performance was put in by tryout defenseman Shandor Kerfoot, with honours also going to winger Colan Julien, and center Jarod MacEachern!

The IceDogs returns home to play host to the North Bay Battalion! Carter MacDougall will get the start in goal for Niagara! Carter MacDougall stopped 23 of the 27 shots he faced in the game, and the IceDogs scored the first five goals of the game, and though the Battalion made the game interesting in the second period, the IceDogs salted it away with two more goals in the third!

Former IceDogs winger Nick Betz has been released by the Toronto Maple Leafs, and is now a free agent!



The IceDogs have loaned goaltender Cedrick Bauer to the Burlington Cougars (OPJHL).



IceDogs defenseman Ville Jarvinen has been cut from Dallas Stars training camp, and returns to the IceDogs!

The IceDogs head out on the road, travelling to play the Sarnia Sting! Bill Mallette will get the start in goal for Niagara! Bill Mallette stopped 22 of the 26 shots he faced, and though the IceDogs scored the games first two goals, the Sting scored four unanswered goals to take the victory!

The Columbus Blue Jackets return defenseman Oliver Kylington to the Niagara IceDogs!



The IceDogs return home to finish off their preseason schedule, playing host to the Mississauga Steelheads! Nicholas Malone will get the start in goal for Niagara! Nicholas Malone stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in the game, and Mississauga scored in the final minute to break a 1-1 tie in win the game!
