Re: Official NHL 13-14 Playoffs Thread
I got ripped big time on reddit for ripping on Ovi but bottom line is the Caps and Ovi are a total joke. Anyone who has been on even a beer league hockey team can imagine what it would be like in that locker room. Star guy getting paid big bucks to JUST score goals is also the captain? And any coach that criticizes him gets fired? come on, NO ONE on that team buys him as a captain and that will always hold them back. Can you imagine how upset the goalies and D on that team are with him? If Caps want Ovi to be ALL offense, they need to sign some pure 3rd/4th line defensive minded guys who don't mind. it has gotten so bad that I think really EVERY "analyst" on tv rips him now bc if they don't they lose credibility.

Re: Official NHL 13-14 Playoffs Thread
I know everyone hates Pierre McGuire, but he was spot-on today when he said that Rask's rebound control is superb and that it's probably the biggest difference-maker for him. He just eats shots and gives no real rebounds. And that hampered Detroit's offense, who was at times just trying to throw the puck at the crease and generate a rebound.jesterx7769 wrote:On a hockey note,
the red wings/bruins game was all sorts of ups and downs. The two wings goals look quite good from their top line players but the Bruins missed out on some main opportunities like Marchands now infamous miss. When you look at those things I don't think Gustaffson played well at all. Meanwhile on the other end Rask was fantastic, there was 2/3 times I cheered thinking there was a RW goal but Rask stopped it. It is easy to credit good defense for goalie success but Rask really has been playing good. As Ferrence said Rask is fundamentally sound and I think that allows him to be everywhere at once, he just also seems to get his pad up/down in time, or slide just those few inches to make the save
Gustavsson played awfully well though. Everyone is pretty sure Howard's "flu" is actually a concussion, so... can't say he cost the team anything in two games, he did fine. Tough to win with no scoring support. By my count he got a little over 2 periods w/ scoring support across 7 periods.

Jackets and the Pens should just stop to try and score the first goal at this point. Wait for the OT is the best decision I think.

Down goes the Blues. Wow. I wonder what will happen with Miller now. Some people are talking about Hitchcock losing his job but I don't think it's necessary yet. They still had a pretty good season and losing to the Hawks is not a shame IMO. Still, it could've been different if it wasn't of the new playoffs format. At least it was a good serie.

Re: Official NHL 13-14 Playoffs Thread
He used to be the guy that ran the Central Hockey League for a number of years. That's all I really know of him. To me that sets off immediate red flags but.... running a league really has nothing to do with GMing a team to be honest, so I dunno'. I know more about him than I do Detroit's current Assistant GM, for what it's worth.philou21 wrote:Does anyone know who's that guy who's now the GM of Calgary?

He's the son of Jim Treliving (from the Canadian TV show Dragon's Den, he owns Boston Pizza & Mr. Lube)

YUMMMY BOSTON PIZZA. LOL. Calgary has their Burkey puppet. Burke could operate that puppet with his hair instead of his hand.
But why the heck is there a Calgary Flame post in the playoffs thread. Those two have as much in common as these two polar opposite thingsL

At least the Flames had a Stanley Cup final in their recent history.batdad wrote:But why the heck is there a Calgary Flame post in the playoffs thread. Those two have as much in common as these two polar opposite thingsL

So the Jackets are most likely gone. I would've hoped for a total let down by Fleury tonight but not going to happen it seems. At least Columbus can be proud of their performance I think. They did well with the team they have and especially against Pittsburgh who really woke up tonight. (Especially Malkin)

I was saying that Washington needed a heart and soul yesterday... The Jackets sure don't have that problem. Superb determination, great talent and huge potential. If they can find the right pieces to generate more offense, they won't have to wait for too long before getting a taste of the second round.philou21 wrote: At least Columbus can be proud of their performance I think. Good game and effort by the Blue Jackets tonight down the stretch, 3 goals in just over 5 minutes. They just out got out talented with Malkin getting a hat trick. As much as I hated the Blue Jackets as a WIngs fan the last few years I must say this season could be a turning point for them. Jack Johnson stepped up his play extremely after the Olympics snub, Johansen looks to have become a top offensive threat finally. Defensively they are set with Johnson, Nikitin, Tutin, Wis, and young Ryan Murray. Heck they almost beat the Penguins without Horton and Umberger. I'm not really sure what/who they will add to the team offensively to be better but they are def no longer a bottom team and I would expect playoffs from the team/fan perspective.

Yup San Jose still the same year after year. How pathetic that team is lol
Going back to Denver for game 7.
Since it's a homer serie I hope the logic will be respected.

And Cee Bee-Only because you are SOOOOOO old your memory had to erase that win.

Columbus really really intrigued me in these playoffs. Ryan Johansson in particular. Loved what I saw from him. I hate to admit it but Jack Johnson was pretty darn good too. This group is on the rise. Looking forward to see what they can do to follow this up...I hope they do not go back into hibernation. In the east..they should be able to keep things on a higher level than many of the teams..yes Toronto and Florida looking at you.
They showed some amazing fight in the series with a team that on paper should be far superior to them. I mean coming back from 3-0 down and almost coming back from 4-0 down with 10 minutes left in a game. That is ridiculous.
I may have to go back to having a bit of a like for that team.

Three game seven's tonight are pretty exciting. I thought NYR would have bat Philly by now but that is why they are NYR. Not as surprised at Wild/Avs, Wild just do not have reliable goaltending which they should if guys were healthy. Kings coming back from 0-3 is crazy, Sharks cannot feel good about that. Kings/Sharks are both contenders to come out of West (obviously) so 7 games isn't surprising just the come back is.
