Yeah we've been discussing that in the few posts before/above yours here.
You can work around it by using the v1.18 .EXE file. The overflow error only happens with versions 1.15 and 1.16. We have no idea why this is. It also is not consistent -- some games you can use 1.18 through the initial offseason and be ok, and in other games it seems to linger for 2 or 3 seasons before you can switch back to 1.16. But whatever it is, it springs up most in the offseason(s).
It was also long-discussed on the FHockey.com forums. I originally suspected it had something to do with player salaries somehow and that as the game went on the problem worked itself out, but that now seems to not be the case. At first, I personally only ever had the problem when I tried to start games with Fantasy Drafts, and the problem then eventually began to manifest in even normal game starts using updated rosters.

If I decided to remove 29GMs to play with one team, I will get the Runtime Error after a couple of weeks simulating. So basically, I can start a career but I need to control 30 teams which is pretty annoying.
I pulled that from your other post in the other thread. That's potentially interesting to us.
The implication here then would be that the overflow error is only caused by something the AI GM's do, or try to do. The AI tries to do something in 1.15 or 1.16, and the game freaks out and crashes, and after a while the danger of the error is gone and you can use 1.16 again to your heart's content and it won't come back.
Our biggest problem in nailing this down right now is this though: not enough people still play the freeware and are active in the community to really get a lot of feedback or reports on what people have tried or noticed. What rosters are your league using and how old where they to start with?
It sounds like some serious testing needs to be done now.
