I'm still working on this sporadically.

It's been driving me mad for a long time now. There has to be something other than just using 1.18 to sim the first season or so (because the error still can happen later in the regular season -- I've seen it as late as spring of the first season, but I have yet to ever see it after that though), but I'll be danged if I can figure it out yet still.

You're right this bug is insanely annoying. I tried to find the reason and thought it may be the salaries who are too high for the game, but it doesn't seem to be the issue.

I will try your roster, but I keep having the Runtime Error, I just posted a topic on the forum about that and they referred me here: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 17&t=17257

But yeah, still no resolution for that?

Yeah we've been discussing that in the few posts before/above yours here.

You can work around it by using the v1.18 .EXE file. The overflow error only happens with versions 1.15 and 1.16. We have no idea why this is. It also is not consistent -- some games you can use 1.18 through the initial offseason and be ok, and in other games it seems to linger for 2 or 3 seasons before you can switch back to 1.16. But whatever it is, it springs up most in the offseason(s).

It was also long-discussed on the FHockey.com forums. I originally suspected it had something to do with player salaries somehow and that as the game went on the problem worked itself out, but that now seems to not be the case. At first, I personally only ever had the problem when I tried to start games with Fantasy Drafts, and the problem then eventually began to manifest in even normal game starts using updated rosters.
matt77 wrote:However, I noticed something. I am simulating for a league, and when all the 30 GMs are assigned on the simulator, I never get the Runtime Error from EHM. If I decided to remove 29GMs to play with one team, I will get the Runtime Error after a couple of weeks simulating. So basically, I can start a career but I need to control 30 teams which is pretty annoying.
I pulled that from your other post in the other thread. That's potentially interesting to us.

The implication here then would be that the overflow error is only caused by something the AI GM's do, or try to do. The AI tries to do something in 1.15 or 1.16, and the game freaks out and crashes, and after a while the danger of the error is gone and you can use 1.16 again to your heart's content and it won't come back.

Our biggest problem in nailing this down right now is this though: not enough people still play the freeware and are active in the community to really get a lot of feedback or reports on what people have tried or noticed. What rosters are your league using and how old where they to start with?

It sounds like some serious testing needs to be done now.

I joined the league a couple of months ago and became the simulator recently, I don't exactly what is the roster they used but I can ask around. I know they started the new dynasty in 2014-2015, so I would guess that they used Hokay Roster from 2014-2015.

I never had the 'Runtime: Overflow Error" while controlling 30 teams in my save, and every time I switch back to controlling 1 team, I end up having the error. Last week I was starting to get hopeful, I went from September to January in my simulation, but after the first week of January I got the Runtime Error.

I can send you the .zip file from my League and from the one that ended up having a problem if it can help you but I'm not sure it will tell you much.

I've been going back and trying some older rosters as a test, and no, even under Windows 10 you still don't get the Overflow error. So it game-related, not something with newer OS's. It's just something unique to Hokay's roster files of the last couple of years. But yeah, if if doesn't happen with 30 human teams then it's got to be triggered by AI GM's trying to do something, and that something seems to happen *more* during the offseason, especially around the season rollover.

I'll keep plugging away at ideas and see what I can find. I'd like to get rid of this once and for all, I'm sick of sometimes having to generate draft classes using 1.18 because 1.16 and 1.15 get the overflow error at the rollover.

Glad to see that it might be the source of the problem, but not sure if we can fix it, this is such an old "game".

You said the Runtime Overflow Error doesn't happen with 1.18? Do you have a link for 1.18?

Hokay, was it you that was including not just the current draft class, but also the *next* one, and the second draft class could be enabled by doing a mass-replace in the PLAYERS.EHM file?

And if so, what is the string you need to replace? Because that'd probably be good info to have on here, with FHockey down. Maybe good to have in the README too.

You're absolutely right, there's draftees for classes of 2018, 2019 and 2020 in the file (It's more for fun than to be realistic), to use them, after each draft do the following:

For 2018 draftees, after the 2017 draft:
1. Save and open "players.ehm" in your savefile folder.
2. Use the "Remplace" fucntion of Wordpad (CTRL+H).
3. Remplace:

Code: Select all

525018 0 0 0 0 100
by

Code: Select all

525018 0 0 0 0 99
4. Save.
5. Reopen your savefile.

For 2019 draftees, do the same after the 2018 draft, but replace "525018" by "525019" instead

Has Hokay been doing any work on a 2018-2019 file?

He was last active on here in November of 2017, so it seems unlikely. It'd be nice to have new rosters, but we may finally be at that juncture where interest in the freeware is so low that it's not reasonable to expect any more new ones. :-(
