Rajala would been drafted in Top15, but NHL-scouts didn't dare cause Rajala is very small player (178cm, 70kg) and maybe he isn't good in physical games (you can imagine what happens if Cal Clutterbuck or Brooks Orpik or Dustin Brown hits him).Otso wrote:I'm kinda shocked that Rajala got picked at the fourth round, I know he was kind of a "mysterypick", but 4th sounds really late. Congrats for Edmonton, very nice pick on the late rounds.

Yeah I know, but he's been gaining some weight now, and besides, Patrick Kane is about the same size and he's doing just fine. I don't mean Rajala would be playing PK or anything like that, but I still thought it was weird.Jypfan92 wrote:[

Yeah, and there's very good small NHL-players like Sergei Samsonov, Brian Gionta, Steve Sullivan, Martin St. Louis, Mike Cammalleri, Paul Kariya etc. so why not Rajala?Otso wrote:Yeah I know, but he's been gaining some weight now, and besides, Patrick Kane is about the same size and he's doing just fine. Difference was that those three guys where unknowns when they where drafted, this Finnish kid seems to be somewhat well known already.philou21 wrote:Is been pick late but you know, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lundqvist...they all been pick 5th round and +. So maybe he would be like those guys, a late pick at the draft but an outstanding player!

So the Pens got Ulfie's kid and the Rags got Bourque's kid. In a way I'm kind of glad that the Bruins didn't draft Ray Bourque's kid. It would've been a whole lot of pressure for him playing in Boston. Still... the Rangers? Why couldn't he have been drafted by a respectable team? Then again, knowing the Rangers they'll trade him before he ever plays for them.

From i've heard of him it seems that this is really a good steal from the Habs. I don't know why but when they draft him, i've got the feeling this was a good ''hidding card''. He's been draft in the fourth round but Timmins says that if is developpement goes well he could make the AHL at the start of the season!Alessandro wrote:Steal of the draft? Since 2 or 3 years the russian been draft late because of this. Nikita Filatov last year been pick 8 or 10 ? and he was ranked 5th or 6th. Avstin been pick 4 round but i heard he was rank like a second or even a first rounder at the begininng of the scouting in october. Since then he drop but i'm happy to see the Habs pick him, they really need a power foward and this guy seem the perfect one. I'm gonna follow is developpement seriously.

Filatov was 6th overall. Cherepanov the year before was a huge faller, i remember watching the draft and thinking 'where the hell is he going to fall too'. 17th overall was a steal for someone who was ranked in the top 10.philou21 wrote:Since 2 or 3 years the russian been draft late because of this. But i'm not sure how much the KHL actually affects it... Cherepanov was expected to join the Rangers this year if things had of course been so different. That's the normal time scale for a prospect, spend another couple of years in juniors then join their drafted team... Obviously different players have different hopes for their future. Maybe Kulikov wants to play in Russia, but then again he came and played in the QMJHL for the last 2 years... Who knows... Kulikov wasn't a major slider though. Look at Despres, he fell a good 17 players behing where he was ranked and no-one really notices his huge slide... I think the KHL is being scapegoated for Russians sliding...
