For the first time since the Blackhawks challenge, I think I'm going to blog about my challenge team. I will stick with it as long as time allows. In the past I've done an ultra-detailed blog and a brief blog. I'd like to see if I can strike a balance between the two.

I'm really looking forward to this challenge, since I wasn't able to compete in the last 2. I do have a question, when do we start and when is the deadline?

You can start any time. We haven't officially announced an end date but figure on it being 2 months from now. With that last challenge we figured out that after 2 months, interest really begins to taper off.

Glad to see you joining in the fun. I've been looking forward to this challenge since we first started planning it. I think it puts a neat spin on things that just makes it a little more interesting.

I'm going to join this time. It looks too appealing to just ignore it :-D Till now I only read all the discussions about the rules and challenge 13 discussion thread as I didn't want to talk in it without joining. :yadda:
I was on holiday last 2 weeks so I wasn't able to participate on all the polls  Pitty that Selanne will retire sooner than Tkachuk, I don't like Tkachuk and can't even trade him due to NTC.
Anyway, this is gonna be my first challenge, so I'm sure I'll do mistakes in recordings or some rule violation... It will be real challenge
Thanks for it, B72 and Lidas!

I read your first blog entry about Jets challenge and it's really funny. I think I'll add your blog in my RSS feed application 8-) Good luck in this challenge!

Glad to see you joining in, McQwak! I'm sure you'll do fine. The best advice I can offer you is to take your time, read all the rules, and keep the cheat sheet handy while playing. If you do that, you should be all set. The rules have really been simplified, so there's just not too much to worry about. If in doubt about something, just ask! 8-)

Thanks for checking out my blog. It's been a long time since I've done one. I can already feel myself spending a lot of time on it. I haven't even simmed forward one day and I'm already working on my second blog entry!

Once again, kudos to Lidas for kick-starting this idea and doing the DB work so quickly!

I think I'll pass on reading the blogs. I want to do things my way, and by reading blog entries it makes me kinda think the same way and do things the same way as authors. I can tell, because I got affected during Islanders challenge as well, and started to concern about how others do with their team too much. I am affectable too much :nerd:

This is going to be my first challenge. And I hoped I understand the rules. I have re-re-read the threads that is linked to. One thing I don't understand do is the pyramid. What's the categories for? Sorry if the question is in wrong thread.

Starting in the second season you are allowed to make UFA signings. The UFA Pyramid is just a way of displaying your options. You can sign 1 player of up to $4M, 2 players of up to $1.5M each, or 3 players of up to $600k each. If you choose not to sign any UFAs, you'll have the right to make 1 waiver claim. Keep in mind, you cannot do any of this in your first season. You'll have the option to pick one "tier" of the UFA Pyramid each season, starting with season 2.

It's explained in more detail here...

Thank you bruins72. Now I understand the rules. But one thing. The screens of finances, player in/out and player stats, are they going to be in every update?

Nope. The screen shots get posted with your end of season stats. It's all explained here in the rules for Stats Recording and Official Scoring...

Any other questions about challenge rules type of things really should go in the Challenge Questions and Feedback thread...

Bruins,

Is there a one-stop shop for the changes in the rules?

I'm excited, time to start nice and early so I can at least get a few seasons in!

God darn, B72! You half-stole my blog-idea of having press reports. And you were more descriptive than me as well. Now I'm gonna have to think of smething else to write about. No worries, though. I probably don't have the time to write much anyway.

This is going to be my first challenge, this one just sounded too interesting to pass up.

I've read all of the rules and I think I understand them all but I do have one dumb question, when does season 2 "officially" start? July 1?

Honestly... just read the rules. We really simplified things in the last challenge. I'd rather not give any shortcuts and then later on have issues because you overlooked one of the other rules. Honestly, it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to read through the complete set of rules.

Honestly, the news reports are only going to be for big announcements. If I make a trade (in season 2 or later) or a UFA signing (also in season 2 or later) or maybe if one of my players wins an award, that's when I'll do a news report. Other than that I'll be doing a GM's blog in character and also some of my own EHM perspectives out of character. You're still all set with doing your blog the way you planned. I'm sure we'll both have a different flavor to offer.

Yes, season 2 officially starts July 1st 2007.

6.1 Note: each season begins on 1 July so any trades completed after 30 June count towards the new season’s quota.

I've got my team setup and will begin simming games this week.

Looks like a pretty solid club. Hard to see this team NOT making the playoffs.

Really looking forward to this challenge. Too bad I won't be able to start my game until the end of August, because of my vacation plans and stuff. Now I kind of hope that I would have taken my laptop with me so I could join the challenge a little earlier. Oh well...

I quess I just have to settle for reading what you guys are doing with your teams for the next 4 weeks.
